Joetsu City hosts several festivals, the most famous being the Kenshin Festival, held every August, which celebrates the life and legacy of Uesugi Kenshin with reenactments and parades. The Takada Castle Cherry Blossom Festival in April is another highlight, with spectacular views of cherry blossoms illuminated at night.
