Love this place. We were there around 8am and we almost have the whole place to ourselves until later when the crowd started to build up as the tour buses arrived. The Kegon Waterfall and Chuzenji Lake in the far end of the photo is our next stop and are about 5 minutes drive away.

The Akechidaira Ropeway is located on the way to Lake Chuzenji, so if you plan to visit both the lake and the ropeway, it’s best to go to the ropeway first. If you visit the lake first, you’ll end up passing the same road again to reach the ropeway, and then repeat the route once more on your way back—basically traveling the same road twice.
The ropeway takes you to a high viewpoint where you can enjoy mesmerizing scenery. During certain seasons, the view becomes even more beautiful, making it totally worth the ride.
Another tip: Parking is free if you take the ropeway. If you don’t ride it, then parking becomes chargeable.

For anyone visiting Nikko and looking to enjoy the breathtaking views of Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji, taking the ropeway is highly recommended. As the gondola ascends to the observation point, you’ll be surrounded by stunning views of mountains and forests.
The best time to visit is during the autumn foliage season when the scenery is absolutely spectacular. The ride takes about 5 minutes each way and can accommodate around 20 people per trip, so if it’s crowded, you might have to wait a bit longer.

Long queue time but the staff worked efficiently to get people to the observation deck. Views up there of Kegon Falls as well as the Lake Chuzengi area were breathtaking

We drove up to visit Niko City and the lake. Had to stop on the way to visit the top for the view. The cable car trip is short just 2 minutes with cars available every 10mins.
The view on the top is beautiful. Do use the telescope for better appreciation and you can hear the falls! How amazing.
