What other travelers are saying about Akechidaira Observation Area
We drove up to visit Niko City and the lake. Had to stop on the way to visit the top for the view. The cable car trip is short just 2 minutes with cars available every 10mins.
The view on the top is beautiful. Do use the telescope for better appreciation and you can hear the falls! How amazing.
Upon completed the visit to the ancient temples in Nikko, you can spend a couple of hours to move to akechidaira ropeway by bus (half an hour), you will have nice view of the falls once on the top (short trip). Dragonfly will welcome you.
Relatively good for a ropeway. The station is a bit old but it is beautifully preserved and still functional. It has an Eki Stamp, the engineer will provide the stamp after your trip. The view from the top is amazing, you can see the Kegon Waterfalls and a village nearby.
Akechidaira can be accessed by car or bus. It is located along the Irohazaka Winding Road, and the site has a parking lot. A ropeway also operates from the parking area to the observation deck.
From the observation deck, you can see Kegon Falls, Lake Chuzenji, and Mount Nantai, which provide some of the best panoramic views of Nikko.
The observation area is open in winter, but access can be limited due to snow and road conditions. The ropeway may also close temporarily during severe weather.
A typical visit lasts about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on whether you take the ropeway and spend time enjoying the views and taking photos.
