Awaji Hanasajiki is a 15-hectare prefectural flower park situated on the northern hills of Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture. The site is called Awaji sajiki, named after sajiki seki—the "special viewing seats" at festivals and fireworks displays. At an altitude of about 250 meters above sea level, this elevated location provides panoramic views of the Akashi Strait and Osaka Bay while serving as one of Japan's premier flower viewing destinations.

The park transforms throughout the year with seasonal displays of rape blossoms, poppies, cleome, cosmos, stock, and more. It is the prefectural park to visit, hosting seasonal flowers that represents Awaji island. The expansive flower fields create colorful carpets across the plateau, offering visitors spectacular photographic opportunities and scenic views that combine natural beauty with the coastal landscape beyond.

Visitors can explore the flower fields along designated walking paths and enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside and sea. The park features a direct sales shop where local souvenirs and products are available for purchase. The elevated position makes this location particularly appealing for those seeking panoramic vistas, as the name "hanasajiki" literally refers to premium viewing seats.

Admission to Awaji Hanasajiki is free, though parking is available for 200 yen per visit. The parking area accommodates 200 spaces for regular vehicles, with electronic payment supported at advance payment machines. The park is a 12-minute drive from the Sumoto Interchange on the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway.

There are no trains on Awaji Island, and aside from bus services, there is limited public transport on the island. To reach the island by public transport, take the train from Osaka (Osaka Umeda) Station, JR Sannomiya Station, or Kobe Sannomiya Station and transfer to the express bus. From Maiko Station on JR, get off at Higashiura Bus Terminal by Kosoku Maiko Bus, followed by a 10-minute taxi ride from the Bus Terminal. It is also possible to take the ferry connecting Akashi Port to Iwaya Port on the north of the island.

Traveler reviews

I believe that this place will be more beautiful and amazing on seasons other than winter. But little did I expect to be mesmerised by the flowers when I visited in December. Occupying a huge space on a hill, parking is only 300 Yen per entry and from there one can spend as much time as he/she wants to take photos, to take a stroll or to enjoy the flowers. We spent about 2 hours here just to camwhore and enjoy the scenery - and lastly enjoyed ice cream before leaving this spot. Please come if you like taking photo.

It’s a must visit spot in Awaji Island. It’s so beautiful that is indescribable. The place is easily accessible and since there’s a good point nearby, so you can easily take children with you too. The views are exquisite and you will be charmed by the gorgeous flowers Just once piece of advice, carry scarves/ mufflers because being on a height, it’s windy and might trouble little children.
After a quick stop at the Aikashi-Kaikyo Bridge, we decided to visit this flower park. The park was well-maintained and wonderfully peaceful. The flowers were beautiful. We spent an hour in the park. Parking was cheap (200 yen) and the restrooms were very clean. The park itself wasn't expensive, but the bridge toll made it a short and expensive visit (2,410 yen times 2).
If you are thinking of whether to visit this place in winter, just do it! The flowers and scenery are simply breathtaking. While some parts haven’t fully bloomed, the areas with flowers in full bloom are incredibly pretty and make the landscape shine.
The view here is beautiful, with flower fields spread across a hill overlooking the sea and the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge in the distance. It is not a full sea of blooms and not large in scale, but it has its own charm. I visited in late July and literally melted walking under the scorching sun, even with an umbrella. Parking costs 200 yen, and admission is free. There is also a restaurant and a souvenir shop selling Awaji produce and local specialties.
