Cup Noodles Museum Osaka Ikeda

4.4 (11901)MuseumTourist AttractionPoint Of InterestEstablishment

The Cup Noodles Museum in Osaka Ikeda is a fascinating tribute to one of Japan’s most iconic food inventions: instant noodles. Located where the world’s first instant noodles were created by Momofuku Ando in 1958, this museum lets visitors dive into the history and evolution of this global favorite. The highlight for many is the "My Cup Noodles Factory," where you can customize your own cup noodles by selecting the ingredients and designing your packaging.

The museum also features exhibits that showcase the development of instant ramen and how it became a worldwide phenomenon. You can see replicas of Ando’s original work shed, where he invented the product, and learn about his creative process through engaging displays. There's even a life-size wall of instant noodle products from different eras, showing how much the brand has grown.

What other travelers are saying about Cup Noodles Museum Osaka Ikeda

We love our experience here. The staff always treat us with so much warmth. We started off with making our own cup noodles. It was 500 yen each, you can buy up to 3 cups per person. You will be ushered to start your drawing and then pick your desired ingredients and soup flavours. After they will pack it up,and you vacuumed it into your own take away bag. Super cute. I think we got really lucky, the staff gave us an opportunity to do the chicken ramen experience.(1000 yen per pax) The whole duration took 70 mins but it was the best experience. Heard from the staff that spots are limited and need prior reservations. When enter the room in level 2, you get to change to apron and a cute chick bandana. The staff was so patient and lovely in guiding us step by step on how to make the ramen. If you have young children, this will be a very educational and fun experience for the little ones. 🩷 I truly enjoy my time.

Our teenage kids (13 and 14) both had fun decorating their noodles! We are cup noodles people and this experience was enjoyable for us as a family. No need for reservations. Just go in and register and pay for the cup you will be decorating (500yen per cup). For the noodle making though, it needs advance reservations and at this time (Oct 30), the next available slots are December already! Place is not that big so we finished in an hour. It was quite organized and instructions are also written. There were staff too to guide you for the next step. After decorating, you’ll line up to choose your ingredients and soup base. There were not many people though there was a school kindergarten students who were having their trip hete which was so cute. There is also a room where you can sit and watch a video. Unfortunately, the video is in japanese so we couldnt quite understand. After the noodle making, there is an exhibit outside which also do not have english. There is however an audio guide you can listen to when you scan the qr code. Noodles has expiration date of 1 month. What a unique experience of decorating your own cup noodles. I am sure the kids would love doing it.

A wonderful blast from the past! Got to customise my own cup noodle that came with choice of dried ingredients and a soup base. Paid for the ramen-making workshop too which was quite interesting. Got to make the noodles from scratch. Great hands-on activity for children. It would be good to get the tickets first upon arrival at the museum.

Fun activity in Osaka and a must visit. This place has something for every age group. The first floor has numbered cup noodle exhibits. The numbers help you navigate an online audio tour to learn more about each exhibit. At the end of the exhibits is an area where you get a personal cup noodle container from a vending machine for 500¥, which you can design and color as you like. At the end you take the container to the final section where they put in the noodles, add seasoning (you get to select 1 from the 4 available seasonings), add some toppings (you get to select 4 from all available toppings), then seal and shrink wrap it. You get to place your own cup noodles in an inflated bag to carry as a souvenir. On the second floor, you get to make your own ramen. It's an interesting experience where they walk you through each step of the process. At intervals when the dough is left to rest and the noodles are being fried, you get to design and color your ramen packets. The entire session is very well organized and time driven. You need an advance reservation for this experience, costs 1000¥ per person and needs to be done in pairs. This museum is a very nice way to preserve and remember the legacy of the inventor of cup noodles, and to impart the underlying principle in visitors that even the simplest ideas can change the world if you pursue it with conviction. The only thing i did not like about this place is that there is no dining area in the museum (even though one presentation mentioned that there is one where you can try out some cup noodles). It would be fun to try out some tasty cup noodles after spending about 2.5 hours in the premises.

This was a great surprise as it was very fun and exciting even for adults, the day I went there were more adults than children at first there was a hands on experience decorating your own pot noodle pot before choosing the contents. Highly recommend for anyone and everyone to visit. The museum itself is small but extremely interesting.
