Dozaki Catholic Church stands as the first Catholic church built in the Goto Islands after the lifting of Japan's ban on Christianity. Originally established as a wooden structure in 1879 by Father Marmand, the current red-brick building was completed in 1908 under Father Pélu's guidance, with some materials imported from Italy. The church represents a pivotal moment in Japanese religious history when French missionaries Fathers Fraineau and Marmand arrived to help revive the local Christian community.

The church holds profound significance as part of the Hidden Christian heritage of the Goto Islands, where persecuted Christians fled during the Edo period and practiced their faith disguised as Buddhism and Shintoism. The site is part of the "Hidden Christian Sites in the Nagasaki Region," designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018. In 1974, the building received designation as a Tangible Cultural Heritage of Nagasaki Prefecture.

Today, Dozaki Church functions as both an active place of worship and a museum displaying artifacts related to Christianity in Goto, including items significant to the Hidden Christians. Visitors can explore the wooden interior featuring traditional stained glass windows and ribbed vault ceilings, along with historical documents and objects. The red-brick structure occupies a picturesque location near the edge of Okuura Bay, creating a striking architectural landmark against the coastal landscape.

Dozaki Church is located on Fukue Island, the largest of the Goto Islands, accessible by jetfoil from Nagasaki City in just a few hours. The church is approximately 15 minutes by car from Fukue Port. Operating hours are typically 9:00-17:00, though the church is closed on certain days. Admission to the museum and church is free, and visitors are expected to observe appropriate church etiquette during their visit.
