Enoshima Aquarium

The Enoshima Aquarium, officially known as the New Enoshima Aquarium or Shin-Enoshima Suizokukan, opened in 2004 as a modern replacement for the original facility that had served visitors since 1954. Located on the Shonan coast in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, the aquarium sits directly beside Sagami Bay, offering visitors spectacular views of Mount Fuji on clear days and a unique integration of marine exhibits with the natural oceanfront setting.

The aquarium is renowned for its focus on the marine life of Sagami Bay, one of Japan's most biodiverse coastal waters. The facility houses over 20,000 creatures representing more than 600 species, with particular emphasis on species native to the region. Its research contributions to marine biology and conservation, particularly regarding jellyfish breeding and deep-sea creatures, have earned it recognition among Japan's leading aquariums.

Visitors can experience several distinctive exhibits, including the 8,000-ton Kuroshio Sea tank, which recreates the offshore environment of Sagami Bay and features schools of sardines creating mesmerizing patterns alongside sharks and sea turtles. The jellyfish exhibits are considered among the finest in Asia, with the Jellyfish Fantasy Hall displaying multiple species in artistically lit tanks.

Daily dolphin and sea lion shows take place in an outdoor stadium with the Pacific Ocean as a dramatic backdrop. The Deep Sea I section showcases rare creatures from the depths of Sagami Bay, while touch pools allow hands-on interaction with tide pool animals.

The aquarium is accessible via the Odakyu Enoshima Line to Katase-Enoshima Station, followed by a 3-minute walk, or via the Enoden (Enoshima Electric Railway) to Enoshima Station with a 10-minute walk. From Tokyo's Shinjuku Station, the journey takes approximately one hour by direct Odakyu Romance Car. Standard adult admission is 2,500 yen, with discounted rates for high school students at 1,700 yen, elementary and junior high students at 1,200 yen.

What other travelers are saying about Enoshima Aquarium

An interesting place to visit, located right next to the beach at Enoshima. The aquarium isn't huge like some of the other aquariums in Japan, but it's got some really fascinating deep-sea creatures. The penguin feeding is fun to watch, and the dolphin show is pretty cool too. They have this whole section dedicated to jellyfish research, which is surprisingly interesting. All in all, it's a fun and educational place to visit. It costs 2800 yen to get in, but I spent a good two and a half hours there, so it was worth it!

This aquarium closes at 5:00 PM. We entered around 2:45 PM, and honestly, two hours was not enough to cover all the areas properly. There are dolphin shows and several other shows throughout the day. The last dolphin show is at 4:00 PM and is quite short, about 10 minutes. I would recommend visiting in the morning, around 10:00 AM, to fully enjoy the different shows, as we missed some due to time constraints. You can also see sharks and many other marine animals. Ticket prices are ¥2,800 for adults and ¥900 for kids (5 years old). Most payment methods commonly used in Japan are accepted, including cards and PayPay. The washrooms are very clean, and there is a feeding/nursing room available, which is convenient for families.
Awesome sea creatures so relaxing when seeing them! If you visit on weekdays no waitings. No crowds. Easy parking access interesting lessons about sea creatures specially jellyfish 🪼. Enjoying!
A great place for a 1 day trip from Tokyo with your family. You would love their jellyfish display, so colorful. It's also next to the beach, so You can also have a nice stroll after that.
Just chanced upon it when i was in the area. Worth it to stop by and visit esp for families with kids. Nice view of the sunset! My husband tried extracying akoya pearl from its shell and turn into a necklace. I would say it was a lovely experience.
