Kotsubo Seaside Park

4 (166)ParkTourist AttractionPoint Of InterestEstablishment

Kotsubo Seaside Park sits along the scenic coastline of Zushi in Kanagawa Prefecture, Located in the historic Kotsubo district, this coastal area was mentioned frequently in the Azuma Kagami, the chronicle of the Kamakura period, highlighting its historical significance as part of the outer fortifications for Kamakura. The port of Kotsubo served as an important maritime location during that era, and today the neighborhood retains its fishing village character with local fish markets supplying fresh catches to nearby sushi restaurants.

The park represents a natural retreat that blends traditional coastal charm with modern resort aesthetics. Palm-lined walkways and Mediterranean-style architecture near the adjacent Riviera Zushi Marina create an atmosphere reminiscent of California beach towns. The park offers expansive views across Sagami Bay, with opportunities on clear days to glimpse Mount Fuji on the horizon, particularly striking at sunset when Enoshima Island appears in the foreground. The area features green lawns, well-maintained walking paths, and direct beach access for swimming and beachcombing.

Visitors can enjoy picnicking on the grassy areas, strolling along scenic coastal trails, and observing local birdlife. The park includes playgrounds for families and wheelchair-accessible facilities. Its location next to Kotsubo fishing port and Riviera Zushi Marina provides additional recreational options, from viewing luxury yachts to exploring the upscale marina complex with its restaurants and shops. The park serves as a venue for community events and seasonal festivals throughout the year.

Access from Zushi Station takes approximately 15 minutes by bus (around ¥200) or a 15-20 minute walk. Buses depart from the east exit toward Kotsubo, with the nearest stop being Kotsubo or Riviera Zushi Marina Mae. From Kamakura, the journey takes about 15 minutes by bus or 10 minutes by taxi. Admission to the park is free.

Nice place for cool photos
This place seems like California. When I visited there I felt like I was not in Japan.
Good
Visited on June 8, 2024. The beach is close to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. There are only a few people there, mostly from apartment buildings, and the view is great. It reminds me of a park next to an old resort apartment building.
