I went there during golden week, because of the huge crowds, visitors had to obtain a numbered ticket and wait for numbers to be called before they can ride the elevator to the observation deck. But once you're up there, you can very faintly see Mt Fuji in the distance on a clear day. The observation deck has an indoor area, an open rooftop area that is very windy and there is also a spiral staircase that you can descend to the base (if you have the strength and stamina to do so.)
1) You would have to go up steep climbs (stairs and slopes) to reach the base of the Sea Candle. Mobility-aid and wheelchair-assisted individuals would not likely be able to go up these areas due to the narrow, steep stairs.
2) There are elevators to go up to the top of the Sea Candle itself.
3)Amazing view of Enoshima Island and Kamakura on the top. There are observation deck points.
4) Went in April, strong cooling winds.
5) There are eateries and food kiosks around the Sea Candle base area.
6) Expect some crowds as this area is a popular tourist destination.
We were there on a Monday evening in early March 2026. The sky was dark by 1830hr. Legend has it that Benzaiten, the heavenly goddess married and tamed Gozuryū, the reformed 5-headed dragon that now protects the island.
Getting there via the Enoden Tram line to Enoshima Station. Walk across the bridge to Enoshima Island. One can visit Ryukoji Temple, Enoshima Shrine, and Benzaitan Nakamise Street during the day.
When night falls, one can sit back at the Enoshima Sea Candle for a meal or drink and enjoy the night lights and cool weather.
This place exceeded my expectations by a lot. At first, I thought it would just be a simple lighthouse, nothing special. But the view from the top was actually stunning.
On the day I visited, I could see Mount Fuji very clearly. The atmosphere was great, and there were seating areas where you can just sit and enjoy the view.
Definitely worth it.
We visited in October 2025.
This is the highlight of a visit to Enoshima. The elevator takes you up to the viewing platform. On a really clear day, you can see Mount Fuji in the distance but even without it, it is was so worth it. You can see the entire island below you and sit and enjoy the sun. We got to see a kite (a bird of prey) which flew all over the island.
There is a small gift shop at the bottom where we got some magnets, included a mystery one. There is also a stamp you can collect for the Sea Candle but you have to ask the staff at the elevator.
The visit is included in the day pass and totally worth it but can also be bought at the elevator itself.
