What other travelers are saying about Former Yasuda Garden
I visited Yasuda Garden yesterday and truly enjoyed it. Even with light rain under a bright sky, the atmosphere was calm and refreshing.
Admission is free, so it is easy to stop by. You can experience the beauty and tranquility of a traditional Japanese garden.
Highly recommended for international visitors.
While you are there, I also suggest visiting the nearby Japanese Sword Museum. The museum displays exquisite Japanese swords and fittings such as tsuba, showcasing the finest traditions of Japanese craftsmanship.
It is a wonderful cultural combination in one area.
A complete walk around the garden takes 20 to 30 minutes. The circular path around the central pond is compact. Allow 45 minutes to an hour if you want to sit and take photographs.
Plum blossoms appear in February and March, wisteria in late April and early May. Mid-November to early December is optimal for autumn foliage when maple trees turn red and orange. The garden is open year-round with distinct seasonal features.
Accessibility is limited. The entrance is accessible, but paths include uneven stone surfaces, steps, and narrow sections. No wheelchair-accessible restroom is available within the garden. Contact management in advance for specific access information.
The Ryōgoku Kokugikan (sumo stadium), Sumida Hokusai Museum, and Sumida River are within walking distance. The Edo-Tokyo Museum is nearby but closed for renovation until 2025. The area has sumo-themed restaurants and traditional craft shops.
The garden generally remains open during rain and light snow. It may close temporarily during severe weather conditions such as typhoons, heavy storms, or extreme weather warnings. Check the official website or contact the garden before visiting during uncertain weather conditions.
Nice garden and I would definitely go if in the area, but wouldn’t make a trip just to see it. Very well maintained and pretty spot. It was fairly busy on a weekday in November. Probably much better with fewer people. If quieter I would suggest grabbing a bench and enjoy.
Former Yasuda Garden is a peaceful and beautifully landscaped garden tucked away in the city. It’s not very large, but it’s carefully maintained and offers a calm atmosphere with a central pond, stone bridges, and traditional features like lanterns and stepping stones. The reflections of the trees and sky on the water are especially pretty. It’s a lovely spot for a quiet walk or short break from sightseeing, and you can also enjoy nice views of the nearby Ryogoku area. Free admission makes it even better — a hidden gem worth visiting.
wonderful garden if you are in the area! i would mirror the sentiment it might not be worth it to travel just to see it, but if you're nearby definitely make a stop! it's very well maintained and gorgeous this time of year.
