The Gion Kobu Kaburenjo is a historic theater complex located in Gion Kobu, the largest of Kyoto's five traditional kagai entertainment districts. The venue consists of two theaters: the main Gion Kobu Kaburenjo Theater and the Gion Corner Annex Theater. Since 1873, the main theater has hosted performances, making it a cultural landmark with over 150 years of history. The theater is particularly renowned for hosting the Miyako Odori, which translates as "Capital City Dances" and began in 1872 when Gion Kobu's nationally-famous geiko performed in public for the first time.
