Hamanako Garden Park, Hamamatsu

Hamanako Garden Park is a 33-hectare public park located on the shores of Lake Hamana in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The park was originally developed as the site for the Pacific Flora 2004 international horticultural exposition, which attracted over 6 million visitors during its six-month run. After the exposition concluded, the site was transformed into a permanent public park that opened to visitors seeking recreational activities and natural landscapes along Japan's largest lake by area.

The park showcases diverse botanical collections across multiple themed gardens, including a Crystal Palace greenhouse that houses tropical and subtropical plants year-round. Seasonal flower displays feature tulips in spring, sunflowers in summer, and cosmos flowers in autumn, creating rotating displays throughout the year. The park's design incorporates Japanese garden aesthetics alongside international garden styles, reflecting the horticultural themes of the original exposition. A 50-meter observation tower provides panoramic views across Lake Hamana and the surrounding Enshu region, allowing visitors to appreciate the relationship between the cultivated gardens and the natural lake environment.

Hamanako Garden Park is accessible from Hamanako Garden Park Station on the JR Tokaido Line, with the park entrance located directly adjacent to the station. Admission to the park is free, though certain facilities such as the observation tower and greenhouse charge separate entrance fees typically ranging from 300 to 500 yen per person.
