What other travelers are saying about Hisui Terrace
Great beach 🏖 to spend time here. Loved the place and vibes. Although the day was a Marine Day holiday, very few people came to enjoy it. So that was a good plus point for us which we thoroughly enjoyed.😍👏
It is open all the day from 8:30 ~ 16:00.
There is a limited parking space but we got it. And it's a free parking. No fee.👍🙏
Toilet 🚽 and shower 🚿 facilities are also available. Toilet is free but for shower🚿, 200yen fee for 8 minutes 👍. But it's a good thing. Since there is only one shower room running, it can be difficult to find an early opportunity when it is crowded. So you have to wait a long time.😔
At this facility, all the stones picked up on the beach behind the building will be appraised (there was a desk at the entrance and they appraised). It was a great experience to see Japanese people to collect stones.👍
Overall, it was a great experience and spend quality time with family.👏👍😍😊
Go to the beach and start digging for your own beloved jade. And there will be a nice guy there at the terrace to verify if you've gotten a real jade or otherwise. Up to 10 stones for appraisal at one time.
This time, we went gem hunting at a beach famous for jade hunting.
Since it was summer, we were concerned about heatstroke, so we parked (for free) at Jade Terrace, right in front of the beach, and started our gem hunt early in the morning.
The beach is sandy and then pebbles, so if you're serious about footing, we recommend wearing rain boots.
I wore sandals, and pebbles would get stuck in the gaps between my sandals and my feet, so my feet were constantly sore. 😢
There's a foot washing area outside Jade Terrace, so you can wash off any dirt. 😊
Jade Terrace opens at 9:00, and someone was there to appraise the stones we found.
I learned a lot.
Thank you! ✨
(It's a kind gesture, so be considerate and grateful, as it's free.)
The restrooms on the terrace were also clean.
I had a great time, feeling like a child again.
The waves are rough, so please be careful when picking up stones at the shoreline.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day! ♪

I came here hoping to find some jade after watching NHK's 72 Hours
I arrived late and Hisui Terrace was closed, but I walked along the beach to look for jade💎.
It's the Sea of Japan🌊, but there are lots of round stones instead of sand, so maybe the waves are calm🍀?
Jade should have a high density, so I dug up some stones on the beach and picked up some white stones that looked like it✨️
I can't tell for sure, so I'll have to take it to my geology teacher and have him take a look!
Things I learned from looking for jade
・There is no river called Itoigawa
・The boundary between the North American Plate and the Eurasian Plate can be seen on the ground
・Jade is an inosilicate mineral, NaAlSi2O6
・The stone in Niigata Prefecture is jade
The first floor is a rest and exhibition space, and the second floor is a cafe with a view of the Jade Coast. It's new and beautiful. The ocean side is completely made of glass, so sunlight pours into the building and it's bright. However, the rooftop observation terrace is a little hard to find. You can only get up there by elevator, which is a little hidden. Even though it was the weekend and the facility was crowded, I was the only one who had gone up to the rooftop. For some reason, all entrances except the main entrance are manual, and you have to open a heavy glass door to get to the elevator, which may be a problem. The parking lot also has no capacity and fills up quickly. The facility is lacking in content by default, but depending on how it's used, it could develop in any way.
The optimal time for jade hunting is approximately three days after rough seas, when heavy waves wash stones ashore. Since jade washes ashore in fairly large pieces, searching several days after the seas have been rougher than usual yields the best results. Guides from the Hisui Megumi-no-Kai (Association for the blessings of jade) at Hisui Terrace can provide additional tips to increase your chances of finding jade. Summer months offer calmer seas ideal for swimming and relaxing, though jade hunting may be less productive during these periods.
Yes, visitors who are uncertain about their finds can have stones examined by staff at the facility. This free identification service helps distinguish genuine jade from similar-looking stones found along the beach. The staff can confirm whether your discovery is authentic jade or one of the many other colorful minerals found along this geologically unique coastline. This service is particularly valuable since the coast contains not only jade but also various other gemstones including sapphire and ruby.
