What other travelers are saying about Hokkaido Ice Pavilion
Highly recommend this place. You'll have the opportunity to experience -21°C and -41°C.
Went there today for a break due to the heavy snow, and we were the only guests on arrival. The staff were kind and passionate, although we were the only visitors. Warm tea was given after the cold room. There is a shrine and a slide outside. The slide cost 200 JPY, but the staff let us use it for free. The slide is highly recommended and it made my day, thanks to the staff. Their kindness and energy; I will always remember.
There was nothing much to see in this establishment. -41C experience was just fans blowing cold air right at you. 200yen sled ride inside was kind of a ripoff, took less than 10 seconds. They give you a hot tea drink right after you finish touring around inside.
I wanted to experience a temperature (minus 41⁰C) for the sheer exhilaration, and I'm glad I did.
But the reason for this 5-star review is the kindness and attention paid to me by the senior couple who seem to run the place.
I had had a mishap along the way, sinking chest-deep in soft snow and having to haul myself back onto the paved pathway.
I would have dropped in on them looking like the Abominable Snowman, and they sat me by a fire and brushed my clothes clean.
Kindness and consideration. My thanks and heartfelt appreciation.
Run by a very enthusiastic couple, while definitely marketed towards children, the -21 degree Celsius hallway is no joke.
Despite being equipped for -10 degree weather, we were definitely being pushed to the limits. Some people challenge the route naked, crazy.
There is a room where you can optionally choose to shower yourself in -41 degree air for people feeling extra spicy.
You get treated to a warm cup of tea and a biscuit at the end for surviving. The theme park also features a snow slide where you ride on pan lid like object. The slide already felt like an uncontrollable harrowing ordeal and the manager points at this wooden plank at the top which appeared to be nearly a straight drop and asked if we wanted to try.
After some encouraging from them we gave in and gave it a shot. We thought we would fly off the curve of the slide but we didn’t, although we did get covered in snow. It was still a very fun experience.
Would recommend going out of your way to visit this attraction.
What a wonderful little place to find on my last day in Asahikawa. The ice museum was really fun and experiencing both the minus 20 and minus 40 degree cold was an intense and amazing experience. And build snow slides were really fun too! The staff were super friendly and welcoming. I was thoroughly impressed
