What other travelers are saying about Hongakuji Temple
A beautiful temple just a few minutes walk from the Kamakura Station. It was a little busy but they were preparing for the New Year so it was very understandable, they were putting up the lanterns. It’s a nice temple complex with multiple smaller temples on the grounds.
This temple is very close to Kamakura station and is particularly beautiful in Sakura season . Shidarezakura usually blossom early . Sakura together with pine tree with temple int the back ground makes great contrast for photography .
Was a light rainy day but very very few people made the way to this temple. We had the place almost to our selves. Very peaceful and beautiful
It is very quiet and peaceful place with the architecture of the old Japanese wooden temple.
Great shrine and quite well maintained.
I loved the way the decorated the statues

The temple is 15-20 minutes on foot from Kamakura Station on the JR Yokosuka Line. Local buses are also available. It is located in a residential area of Kamakura.
You can explore the temple buildings and main hall, walk through the gardens, take photographs in outdoor areas, and observe Nichiren Buddhist practices at this active religious site.
