What other travelers are saying about Zaimokuza Beach
It's no exaggeration to say that this is the sea where I was born and raised.
It is a quiet coastline that has a different charm to Yuigahama, both now and in the past. On the left edge is Wakaejima, the oldest port ruins in Japan, and Zaimokuza Beach has a romantic atmosphere.
If you take a boat out, you can catch whiting and rockfish.
Many people here windsurf.
If you want to take a photo of Mt. Fuji and the ocean from Kamakura, head to Zaimokuza.
You can't get a good shot from the west.
During the Kamakura period, the Zaimokuza area was a bustling port of call for ships, even before the Wakaejima port was built, and a commercial town developed. Later, with the construction of the port, it became convenient for transporting lumber and other materials from far away. It became even more prosperous as a distribution center for Kamakura's building materials, and many lumber merchants settled here. It's said that the name Zaimokuza comes from the fact that a lumber merchant's guild was established here from the late Kamakura period to the Muromachi period. 🗻
The scenery that appears as soon as you exit the tunnel on Route 134 on the border between Zushi and Kamakura heading towards Kamakura is incredibly beautiful.
The official swimming season runs from early July through August when lifeguards are on duty and facilities operate fully. Surfers visit year-round due to consistent waves. Spring and autumn have fewer crowds and mild weather. Winter is quiet with cooler temperatures.
Zaimokuza is less crowded than neighboring Yuigahama Beach and has a more residential character. It attracts more local visitors and surfers rather than tourists. The beach is closer to temples like Hongakuji and Ankokuron-ji.
Beachside cafes and restaurants serve seafood and casual meals year-round. Temporary beach houses operate during summer months. Additional restaurants are located in nearby residential streets. Visitors may bring their own food.
The beach has gentle slopes and calm summer waters. Public restrooms and showers are available. Lifeguards are present only during July and August. The beach has fewer facilities than larger developed beaches.
Surfing is available year-round with conditions suitable for beginners to intermediate levels. Local surf shops offer rentals and lessons. Designated surfing zones are enforced, particularly during summer swimming season.
