Iwamuro Onsen is a historic hot spring town located in Nishikan Ward, Niigata City, renowned for its distinctive black mineral waters. First discovered over 300 years ago during the Edo period, this thermal resort developed as a crucial resting point for travelers along the Hokkoku Kaido road. Transportation options include a 10-minute taxi ride from Iwamuro Station on the JR Echigo Line, a 45-minute taxi from Niigata Station, or a 30-minute taxi to Tsubame-Sanjo Station on the JR Yahiko Line. The location makes it an ideal 50-minute day trip from Niigata City, though overnight stays allow visitors to fully experience the traditional ryokan atmosphere and evening cultural programs.
