Kitanada Sea Station JF Kitanada Fish Market holds the distinction of being the first sea station designated in Tokushima Prefecture. This unique facility represents a pioneering approach to coastal commerce in Japan's Shikoku region, combining traditional fishing industry operations with modern accessibility infrastructure.

Located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, the station serves as both a working fish market and tourist destination operated by the JF North Rough Sea Fishermen's Cooperative Association. The facility embodies Japan's maritime heritage while supporting local fishing communities along the coast of the Seto Inland Sea. With safety as its motto, it handles fresh fish landed off the coast of Kitanada and maintains strong connections to traditional fishing practices that have sustained this coastal community for generations.

Visitors experience authentic Japanese fish market culture through direct access to freshly caught seafood from local waters. The station stocks a wide range of processed marine products alongside the daily catch, offering tourists insight into both commercial fishing operations and regional food preparation methods. The facility provides opportunities to observe working fishermen and learn about sustainable fishing practices employed in the Seto Inland Sea.

The station's most distinctive feature is its accessibility from either land by car or sea by pleasure boat, making it a rare dual-access coastal facility. By car, visitors exit the Kobe Awaji Naruto Expressway at Naruto IC and follow National Route 11 towards Takamatsu for 15 minutes. The facility is free to visit, though individual purchases vary by market pricing. The nearest major transportation hub is Tokushima Station, connecting to the broader Shikoku railway network.

Traveler reviews

Forget Tsukiji, people need to go local and this is the place. Fish caught fresh the day you eat it! You can grab a few to try and sit outside. They provide tables and utensils to enjoy this fresh sashimi. We had wild caught Tai and Buri which was farmed and fed Sudachi :)

The food at the restaurant is excellent, the 2 deep fried prawns were out of this world. Best I have tasted so far. The whole prawn head was so crispy, that all, all including shell were in my stomach in no time. The service were attentive, even advised us to cancell the additional rice we ordered ( she knew it was too much for both of us ). Very vert reasonable price (dared to say very inexpensive) So full and satisfying, couldn't move on with dessert. Must visit.
