What other travelers are saying about Kegon Waterfalls
**American Family Visiting**
Kegon Falls was probably the highlight of my visit in the Nikko area. After missing it in 2010, our recent 2025 summer trip prompted the opportunity to get up here.
The falls themselves are some of the most breathtaking falls I've ever seen. There are views from the top of the gorge as well as an observation deck at the lower level. There is an elevator (for a fee) that will take you down to the lower observation level. The lower level can be slick so take caution.
There is a shop at the lower observation deck as well as upper shops. Additional facilities such as shops, bathrooms, and food are available. All were clean and staff was friendly.
Parking is available at two locations. We parked at parking lot #2. We entered the gate which took a picture of our license plate. When leaving, you enter your license plate number and you are then provided your charge. Upon exiting, you simply approach the exit, the camera reads your plate, and opens if you have paid.
Stunning stunning location! It is clean and well presented. Stop at the top and enjoy a view from the top. Grab some food or snack the purchase a lift ticket and then you are on your way to the bottom to see some amazing views of the waterfall. The waterfall is very high and a beautiful blue colour. This waterfall is a must see attraction.
Kegon-no-Taki in Nikko is absolutely breathtaking! The sheer drop of the waterfall surrounded by lush nature feels like something out of a painting. There’s also a free viewing area where you can see the falls, but for the best and closest experience, I highly recommend getting the observation platform ticket for 600 yen — totally worth it to feel the power and beauty of the falls up close. A must-visit if you’re in Nikko!
If you are planning on weekends, I really recommend to visit early in the morning to avoid rush. I visited at 8:30am in the morning so there were very few people. I could able to enjoy the view for longer time ❣️
Nice view of the water fall from the viewing deck, we did not view it from the lower deck as it was closed by 5pm. The view of the waterfall is nice and had a nice overview to it. The air is fresh and the spring summer air is great!
The natural scenery is very beautiful, but when taking the elevator down 100 meters to see the waterfall, the temperature drops very low, so bring a jacket to avoid getting cold.
