What other travelers are saying about Kinosaki Onsen Ropeway
We were fortunate to witness such a stunning view from the top on a foggy morning, making it a highlight of our trip. I guess whether it’s worth going up really depends on the weather, but it’s still a decent spot to visit. We spent only about 10 minutes at the top, as there wasn’t much to see further down the road. I’d recommend taking the ropeway up to the top, then descending halfway to the temple before continuing down via the stair trail, which is only about 15-min walk.
Just enjoy what has to offer. Short ride ropeway. A view to the sea.
Temple and shrine.
Needs to climb the stairs to get to the Ropeway.
Elderly with joints pain might find difficulty here.
There is a cafe with a view too.
A really nice view at the top. It was the end of the day so I just went for a short time. Though the cafe looks nice to relax at. I bought jr west Kansai wide area pass from klook which included kinosaki must visit 3 day pass. This includes round trip on the ropeway. You can pick up the pass at the tourist center in front of the train station.
Great morning ride up to take some photos. Recommended way to spend a couple of hours before all of the onsen open for the day.
This is a great ropeway which goes up to the top of the mountain, and you should really check it out if you go to Kinosaki. Go there after a bath at an onsen in town.
There is a cafe at the top and a lookout and I think a few chin-up bars too.

Yes. Hiking trails from the base reach the summit in 30 to 40 minutes. You can combine walking one direction with riding the ropeway the other way.
The ropeway itself requires minimal effort beyond boarding the gondola. Summit observation areas near the station are paved, but temple paths have uneven surfaces and steps. Wheelchairs can be accommodated with advance notice, though access to some areas is limited.
Visit either morning or late afternoon. The ropeway station is 15 minutes' walk from the main onsen district. Most visitors go before bathing or in late afternoon for sunset views. Avoid going immediately after hot baths due to the walk required.
