Mimasaka Farm

Mimasaka Farm is a working agricultural facility and tourist destination located in the mountainous regions of Okayama Prefecture in western Japan. The farm spans approximately 30 hectares and was established in 1998 as part of a regional initiative to promote rural tourism and sustainable agriculture in the Mimasaka area, a district known for its fertile valleys and traditional farming practices dating back centuries.

The farm sits at an elevation of roughly 400 meters above sea level, benefiting from the cool climate and clean mountain water that flows from the surrounding Chūgoku Mountains. This geographic setting has made the region historically significant for rice cultivation and livestock farming. Mimasaka Farm continues these traditions while incorporating modern organic farming methods, growing seasonal vegetables, raising dairy cattle, and producing artisanal dairy products that reflect the area's agricultural heritage.

Visitors to Mimasaka Farm can participate in hands-on agricultural activities including fruit picking during harvest seasons, feeding and interacting with farm animals such as cows, goats, and sheep, and attending workshops on cheese-making and butter production. The farm's restaurant serves meals prepared with ingredients grown on-site, offering dishes that showcase local Okayama cuisine. A small shop sells fresh produce, dairy products, and handmade goods. Walking trails wind through the property, providing views of the pastoral landscape and surrounding mountains.

The farm is accessible by car from Tsuyama Station on the JR Tsuyama Line, located approximately 25 kilometers away, with the drive taking around 35 minutes. Limited bus services operate from Tsuyama to nearby villages, though a rental car or taxi is recommended for convenience. Admission to the farm grounds costs ¥500 for adults and ¥300 for children.

I've been interested in this place for a while, but I've mostly bought them as gifts or for takeout... I went strawberry picking for the first time. It seems there are several greenhouses, so even if you make a reservation, it seems like you won't know until the day of the event. It was colder inside the greenhouse than I expected, but there were so many strawberries that it didn't even bother me. Today's strawberries were...Akihime, Oi C Berry, Starlight, and Yotsuboshi. I wasn't able to eat Benihoppe at the greenhouse I visited this time. Akihime was the sweetest, and my kids devoured them. I think parents went for Oi C Berry. There are sheets on the ground, so it's safe for strollers and wheelchairs. I thought the strawberry shelves were just the right height for adults, but they're actually a good height for kids to reach. However, if a child runs under the shelves, it can be difficult for parents, as they have to crouch down to chase after them. It's narrow, so it's difficult to pass each other. The white bean paste daifuku was also chewy and not too sweet, and was delicious. Overall, I was very satisfied! Reason for 4 stars... There is no hand-washing area inside the house, so it's a good idea to bring extra hand towels. I brought new baby wipes with me this time, but we used about half of them. There is a diaper changing station, but since it's an outside toilet, I thought it might be visible from some angles. The parking lot is covered in gravel, so stroller tires get caught in it.
