Miyukihama (Miyuki Beach) is a historically significant coastal destination located in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The beach derives its name from the imperial visit of Emperor Meiji and Empress in 1873, when they came to observe local fishing activities. The term "miyuki" translates to "imperial visit" in Japanese, marking this location as one of cultural importance in Japan's imperial history.

This picturesque bow-shaped beach faces Sagami Bay and features distinctive rocky black sand. On clear days, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Izu Peninsula and Miura Peninsula, with the sea surface displaying colors ranging from blue to emerald green. The beach's unique geographical setting provides breathtaking coastal scenery that has attracted visitors for over a century.

Visitors can engage in various seaside activities including paddle boarding, fishing, and shell and crab hunting. The beach offers an unusual entrance experience through a tunnel under elevated railway tracks, creating a distinctive approach to the coastal area. During summer months, the beach provides essential amenities including public toilets, showers, and an adjacent municipal pool.

Miyukihama is conveniently located just a 15-minute walk from Odawara Castle, making it easily accessible for tourists exploring the historic city center. The beach can be reached via Odawara Station, which connects to multiple railway lines including the JR Tokaido Line, Odakyu Odawara Line, and Tokaido Shinkansen. From Tokyo, the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 27 minutes by train, with fares around 1,490 yen. The beach is free to access and surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores, making it an ideal destination for day trips from the Tokyo metropolitan area.

Traveler reviews

Miyukinohama Beach is a peaceful, understated stretch of coastline that feels refreshingly local and unpolished—in a good way. Unlike the more crowded, resort-style beaches, Miyukinohama has a natural, slightly rugged charm. The shore is mostly pebbly rather than sandy, and the sound of waves rolling over the stones creates a calming rhythm that makes it a great place to just sit and unwind. On clear days, you’ll get wide-open views of the sea, and the atmosphere feels slow and unhurried.

I do really enjoy coming to this beach when I'm in Odawara, but it is rocky in places and the water is pretty murky if you're trying to see any marine life. However, it was very pleasant for swimming on July 15th. It has good views and good vibes, just not a "stunning destination spot". But honestly a good trip to the beach - any beach - is always worth it :)

Unreal and peaceful beach. A bit stony. Not sure abt water quality but had to take a swim. The tsunami walls and gates are impressive.

Beach is cloudy during my spring visit and full of rock, but the tunnel is interesting to visit.
