This is a historic shrine set in a beautiful park with water features, ducks, koi and turtles. The sense of peace and tranquility fills you as soon as you enter.
We happened upon it by accident, walking back from the Bonzai Village. It was so beautiful, and we enjoyed playing our respects at the temples inside, as well as veiring the gardens and wildlife.
The koi were especially friendly. There are signs warning not to feed them.
Thought the park, there is a children's playground, and a zoo as well. We returned the next day to visit the zoo.
There's a traditional shrine with a solemn atmosphere and a spacious, open park. There's also a small zoo that's free to enter. Along the approach to the shrine, you'll find lovely little cafes and restaurants, and walking among the tall trees is really pleasant. On the way from Omiya Station to the shrine, there's even a stylish street lined with vintage clothing stores. Saitama is sometimes ranked as having low appeal, but I think that's wrong. This area around the shrine is a great spot where you can easily spend half a day.
