Musashi Kyuryo National Government National Park, Namegawa

Musashi Kyuryo National Government Park opened in 1974 as Japan's first national government park, established as part of the Meiji Centennial Project. Located on the Hiki Hills in Namegawa, Saitama Prefecture, the park serves as both a recreational space and a protected natural forest area. The park spans 304 hectares stretching between Namegawa Town and Yagii, Kumagaya City, making it one of the region's largest green spaces.

The park features diverse natural landscapes including forested areas, ponds, swamps, marshes and grasslands. Seasonal flowers create changing displays throughout the year, with plumed cockscomb flowers blooming from early September to early October, growing up to 30cm during peak season. The natural setting provides opportunities for nature observation and photography across all seasons.

Visitors can explore the grounds through multiple activities. A cycling circuit of approximately 16 kilometers circles the park, with bicycle rentals available for around 500 yen per three hours. The park has four entrances: Central, North, West, and South, with the distance from South to North Entrance measuring 5 kilometers. Athletic facilities, playground equipment, and Japan's largest air trampoline provide active recreation options, while barbecue areas accommodate group gatherings. An internal park bus operates between gates and popular spots, costing 210 yen per ride or 400 yen for a day pass.

Visitors can reach the park by taking the Tobu Tojo Line to Shinrin-Koen Station, followed by a local bus for approximately 10 minutes. Alternative access is available via JR Takasaki Line to Kumagaya Station. Admission costs 450 yen for adults and high school students, 210 yen for seniors aged 65 and older, and is free for junior high school students and younger. Parking is available at the park entrances for those traveling by car.
