NAGASAWA Kobe Brick Warehouse Store

The NAGASAWA Kobe Brick Warehouse Store is housed within one of Kobe's historic red brick warehouses in the Harborland district. Originally constructed in 1898 as a cargo warehouse serving Kobe Port, this building played a vital role in supporting the port's development and economy during the late 19th century. The warehouse continued to store goods arriving at the port until 1987, when it was transformed into a commercial complex. Today, the structure retains its original brick facade and period architecture, serving as a living monument to Kobe's maritime heritage.

The store represents a fascinating blend of history and contemporary stationery culture. NAGASAWA, a stationery company founded in 1882, operates this specialty shop focusing on high-quality writing instruments and original products. The flagship offering is Kobe INK Monogatari, a collection of nearly 70 fountain pen ink colors inspired by Kobe's landscapes and landmarks. Each ink captures specific aspects of the city, including Harbor Sky, a color sold exclusively at this location that evokes the blue skies above Harborland.

Visitors can explore an extensive selection of fountain pens, including exclusive collaborations with renowned manufacturer Sailor that feature illustrations of the Brick Warehouse itself. The store provides a complimentary fountain pen cleaning service for enthusiasts. Beyond fountain pens and inks, NAGASAWA carries original stationery products, specialty papers, and writing materials from Japan and around the world. The atmosphere encourages hands-on exploration, with testing stations where customers can experience different pens and inks firsthand.

The Kobe Brick Warehouse complex also houses cafes, restaurants, furniture stores, and event spaces. The building is particularly striking when illuminated after sunset, creating a romantic waterfront scene. The location is accessible via JR Kobe Station on the JR Kobe Line, approximately 5 minutes on foot south from the station. Alternatively, visitors can use Harborland Station on the Kobe Municipal Subway Kaigan Line, which provides direct access to the shopping complex.

What other travelers are saying about NAGASAWA Kobe Brick Warehouse Store

Highly recommended for fountain pen enthusiasts in particular! The staff are very friendly. I was greeted by a lovely gentlemen who got a fresh cup of water, explained that I could sit down, use their dipped pens (& supplies) to try out all their Kobe inks. And boy, did they have an amazing selection!! They happily let me try out their inks for 2 hours and when it came time to buy my various inks and washi, the lovely lady gave me an English Kobe inks leaflet and a free sticker! My experience at the store was fantastic, I will definitely be visiting again when I'm next there! I have already recommended it to my fountain pen friends!

Ok this place is dangerous. If your like me and love fountain pens and interesting ink colours. These guys also have lots of Kobe only inks! Like I said - dangerous!
Wonderful selection of Kobe inks and pens. Had nibs less easily found out of Japan :)) and a nice selection of the limited edition kobe inks as well.
Great branch of this well-known stationery store. Especially have a good range of local Kobe nautical themed goods. Well worth going out of your way to visit!
Located inside a brick warehouse near Kobe Port. Unlike the Nagasawa Bungu Center, the Brick Warehouse store is more of a cultural and creative shop. They sell items representative of Kobe (e.g., souvenirs, Kobe tartans, etc.), as well as fountain pens and inks. There's an ink test station, so it's highly recommended for ink lovers! I bought the store's exclusive Harbor Blue 🥰. Plus, you get a free sticker with a minimum purchase! The beautiful harbor view is right next to it, so I highly recommend a stroll. P.S. Next door is the old Kobe Port Signal Station, the inspiration for Nagasawa's Kobe Gradation Capless fountain pen, released this year (2025). The store's hours are relatively short, closing at 7:00 PM, so be careful when you visit.
