Really fun experience and definitely worth doing once if you’re a Pokémon fan. You need to make a booking beforehand because it’s very popular. The café itself was well themed and there were little shows with music and dances during the session which made it feel more interactive and memorable.
The food was decent, but the main highlight is really the Pokémon designs and presentation. Everything looked really well done and matched the theme perfectly. It’s more about the overall atmosphere and experience than the food itself, but I still really enjoyed it.
Pokémon Cafe Tokyo was such a special experience and easily one of the highlights of our trip. Reservations are extremely hard to get, so we felt incredibly lucky that we showed up right at opening and were able to get in because of a cancellation. We ordered the Snorlax meal, the Pikachu soufflé pancakes, and the dessert served in a Poké Ball, and everything was good, but the real standout for us was the strawberry layered cake inside the Poké Ball. The theming is unbelievably cute, the drinks were great, and I loved that some of them come with souvenir cups you can only get at the cafe. Seeing Pikachu perform was absolutely adorable and made the whole experience even more memorable. Our kiddo loves Pokémon, so this was a huge hit for our family. I would absolutely recommend it for anyone traveling with kids or for Pokémon fans in general.
Very disappointing experience, especially as an international visitor who traveled a long way to visit Pokémon Cafe.
We had a reservation at 13:15 and arrived only about 9 minutes late. We waited at the entrance for staff assistance, but the staff were chatting and laughing for a while without helping us. Eventually, we were told that we could not enter because we were considered late.
I understand and respect that reservation time limits exist. However, what disappointed us was not the rule itself, but the complete lack of flexibility, communication, and hospitality.
We explained that we came from overseas specifically for Pokémon Cafe and asked if we could still enter with a shorter dining time, skip the performance, or find any alternative solution. We were simply refused, even though there appeared to be empty seats inside.
For a brand loved worldwide, I expected a more welcoming and thoughtful experience. Being asked where we came from while still being denied entry made the interaction feel even more uncomfortable as foreign visitors.
I also heard from a friend who previously visited that staff strictly removed their food immediately when the 90-minute time limit ended, even when they were taking the final bite.
I understand the importance of managing reservations, but hospitality also requires empathy and reasonable judgment. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect the friendliness and warmth that Pokémon represents.
Very disappointed and would hesitate to recommend this place to other international travelers.
If you come, i only recommend you have drinks. The food is awful. Worst than plane food in economy. The teriyaki chicken burger meat was pink and when my husband enquired about it he was told it's normal cause its processed meat. We had a booking and one of the earlier ones to arrive for our time slot but was given seats at the side. I had no idea the 'show' with Pikachu only was only in the centre of the restaurant. He does not move around. So if you get a seat at the side you hardly see anything. He only really poses for photos with the tables in the middle. I definitely would not bother to queue for this.
Fairly disappointed in my visit here.
First of all it’s super painful to get any seating in advance. I got lucky to at least get one spot but my partner couldn’t come with me. For a moment we hoped that it’s possible via the line in front of the cafe where they let people in if there is space. And there was a lot of space! In the end it was for the better, because unfortunately the food looks amazing but for what it is it’s quite expensive. And tbh I had more delicious and less expensive sweets/deserts with higher quality throughout my stay in Tokyo. Also had massive trouble to get in in the first place, because my email went into spam and I just had the name and reservation number as a screenshot. They almost didn’t let me in even tho it should be easy to check if I am me and if the reservation number fits. There was a minutes long argument which definitely was a lot and dragged down the overall experience. Anyways the latte picture is quite fun and cute. You can choose any Pokemon. But also unfortunately here there was not an option to choose a different milk. So just cows milk, no plant based options. A pitty for a big restaurant/cafe in my opinion. For the desert plate and a latte I payed 3355¥. And they also approached me and asked me if I wanna buy the plate I was eating from. I declined. I felt like they were disappointed in that. I also was encouraged to order more food/drinks, but also declined. Overall I didn’t really feel comfortable being there trying to enjoy what I had in front of me. The cafe itself was nicely decorated but that’s really it. There was an interactive pikachu dance situation, which was kinda cute tho.
I really was thinking to buy one of the mugs they were selling in the end, but my disappointment and frustration was so big that I really didn’t want to put any more money into this.
