Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort is located in the mountains of Jozankei, approximately 60 kilometers southwest of central Sapporo in Hokkaido, Japan. The resort opened in 1987 and has since established itself as one of the region's premier winter sports destinations, benefiting from Hokkaido's renowned powder snow conditions. The facility was developed to accommodate the growing demand for quality ski terrain accessible from Sapporo, taking advantage of the area's reliable snowfall and natural mountain topography.

The resort sits within the Shikotsu-Tōya National Park area, surrounded by pristine forests and mountainous terrain that showcase Hokkaido's natural beauty. The location receives an average annual snowfall of approximately 8 to 10 meters, creating exceptional powder conditions that typically last from late November through early May. This extended season and quality snow have made it particularly popular among both domestic and international skiers seeking authentic Hokkaido powder experiences.

Visitors can access 7 courses spanning different skill levels across the mountain, with a longest run of 3.6 kilometers. The resort features 4 lifts including gondolas and chairlifts that service a vertical drop of 630 meters, with the summit reaching 1,100 meters above sea level. The terrain is particularly well-suited for intermediate skiers, though beginners and advanced skiers will find appropriate runs. The resort also offers night skiing on select courses, snowboarding areas, and equipment rental facilities at the base lodge.

Access from Sapporo is straightforward via direct shuttle buses that depart from various locations in the city, including Sapporo Station and major hotels, with journey times of approximately 90 minutes. The buses operate throughout the ski season with increased frequency on weekends and holidays. Private vehicles can reach the resort via National Route 230, with parking available on-site. Day lift passes for adults are priced at approximately ¥5,200 to ¥6,000, with discounted rates for seniors, children, and afternoon-only skiing. Multi-day passes and equipment rental packages are also available at the resort's facilities.

Traveler reviews

Drove a car down in early Jan. Weather was really cold (-7°C). Roads were relatively empty and but the road lines on the ground are barely visible; Just follow the signs We went down for a 1 day ski beginner course. All equipments could be rented aside from the ski gloves, face mask and neck guard (which you have to buy if needed) Our instructors were very friendly and skilled and could speak basic English so it went well. The course was split into 2 parts - 2 hours of practice at the easy slope, then 2 hours of the actual skiing down the mountain. (One hour of lunch in between) I recommend to book the course online as there are limited slots, especially for English ski/snow boarding classes.

If you wanna skip the line queue of gear rental, you’re better to reach the counter of rental before 9:30 am due to tour bus’ arrival. The rental counter will offer discount on the 2nd day rental and don’t miss it. Besides, there are a good deal while buy the ski pass which you just pay ¥500 & you could get a ¥1080 meal coupon. It can be used for all restaurants in the ski park. I experienced an accident which caused me to fell on the floor of toilet (opposite to ramen shop) and I wore the ski boots. I think the Management Office has the responsibility for my injury because they don’t place any anti-slip material at the toilet floor. For those skiers ⛷️ you guys should aware of this. Overall speaking, the trails are good enough for all levels players, though not so many tracks compared w/ Niseko.
Non stop Pow!! It snowed all 8 days we were here! Such great skiing, especially the side country, oh and the Ramen in the shop... best in the world, or at least the best I've had
It was a great ski experience but not beginner friendly.. Felt the price is a little steep where you need to pay for entrance/additional safety gears/cable car ride to the courses separately.. Easily cost almost 10k yen per adult for the full package..
If you are a ski enthusiast, this is the place to visit. Real snow, powdery quality, fantastic for skirt sports. The entire set up is well maintained, ski-lift and ski-cablecar. Different restaurants are offered here to cater for different types of tastes.
