Satta Toge Pass is a historic mountain pass that offers one of Japan’s most iconic views. This pass, situated along the ancient Tokaido Road, provides a panoramic vista that has captivated travelers for centuries. The view from Satta Toge is breathtaking: on a clear day, you can see the vast expanse of Suruga Bay, with the majestic Mount Fuji rising in the distance, creating a perfect harmony of sea and mountain.

The pass is famously depicted in the ukiyo-e woodblock prints by the renowned artist Utagawa Hiroshige, whose work immortalized this stunning landscape in the "Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido" series. Walking along the pass, you can almost feel the echoes of the past, imagining the countless travelers who once tread this path, from samurai to merchants.

Today, Satta Toge Pass remains a popular spot for hikers and photographers, offering a tranquil retreat with a view that’s as awe-inspiring now as it was in Hiroshige’s time. The area is rich in history, blending natural beauty with cultural significance, making it a must-visit for anyone exploring Japan’s scenic routes.

What other travelers are saying about Satta Toge Pass

A famous spot with a lot of history, where you can enjoy the view of the beautiful Suruga Bay and Fuji san, if the weather is cooperative. The parking lot is very small, with only 7 spots. Toilet facilities on site. You can enjoy a little stroll there, there's a platform a couple minutes away from the parking lot. There's a big map, telling you about the different trails (Hamashidake )nearby and other landmarks.

A peak of historical significance with amazing views. Try to match Hiroshige's iconic artwork! There is a landslide diversion which means the popular viewing point is not accessible at the moment, but a 15 minute detour of your hiking trail takes you very close to that iconic viewing point. Check out the picture for path to take

The weather didn’t completely work out for me and Mt. Fuji was hiding in the clouds. But I really enjoyed the walk from Yui station up to this viewpoint. There were many delicious oranges for sale along the way. One of the homeowners even offered some to me as a gift. The viewpoint area was not very crowded when I went. Everything was clean and well looked after and there was also a clean public toilet.
