Sea Bass Pukarisanbashi Pier, Yokohama

3.9 (849)Ferry ServiceTransportation ServicePoint Of InterestEstablishment

Pukari Sanbashi Pier stands as Japan's first floating passenger terminal, completed in 1991 in the heart of Yokohama's Minato Mirai district. The unique Western-style terminal building sits atop a large floating platform, featuring two stories with a ticket office on the first floor. This innovative design represents a significant engineering achievement in maritime infrastructure and has become an integral part of Yokohama's waterfront development.

The pier serves as the primary terminal for the Sea Bass ferry service, which connects Yokohama Station's east exit, Minato Mirai 21, the Red Brick Warehouse, and Yamashita Park. Water taxis also operate from this terminal, linking various popular areas throughout Yokohama. The location provides visitors with convenient access to major tourist attractions while offering a distinctive perspective of the city from the water. The Sea Bass vessels are named after the Japanese sea bass, a fish native to the local rivers and estuaries.

Visitors to Pukari Sanbashi can enjoy exceptional views of Yokohama Bay, particularly the illuminated Yokohama Bay Bridge visible in the background. The pier is located a short walk from Rinko Park, providing additional vantage points for scenic views. On the second floor, the floating restaurant Seafood Bistro Pier 21 allows diners to watch boats travel through the Port of Yokohama while enjoying their meals. The evening hours offer particularly striking views when the city lights reflect on the water and illuminate the surrounding architecture.

Access is convenient from Yokohama Station, with the pier serving as a departure point for ferry services throughout the harbor area. Ferry tickets can be purchased at the ground floor ticket office. There is no admission fee to visit the pier itself, though ferry rides and restaurant services require separate payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sea Bass Pukarisanbashi Pier is Japan's first floating passenger terminal, completed in 1991. It serves as a ferry terminal in Yokohama's Minato Mirai district, featuring a Western-style building constructed on a floating platform. The pier functions as the main departure point for the Sea Bass water bus service and water taxis that connect major tourist destinations throughout Yokohama Bay.

Ferry fares vary by destination: 1,000 yen from Yokohama Station East Exit to Yamashita Park, 800 yen to Pier Akarenga (Red Brick Warehouse), and 700 yen to Hammerhead. Children ages 6 to 12 typically pay half price, and children under 6 ride free. Tickets can be purchased at the ground floor ticket office at the pier.

The Sea Bass operates daily between 10:00 and 19:00, with usually two services per hour departing from Yokohama Station. Operating hours may vary depending on seasonal schedules, so visitors should check the current timetable before planning their trip.

The Sea Bass ferry service connects several key Yokohama attractions. Current destinations include Yokohama Hammerhead (convenient for the Cup Noodle Museum and Cosmoworld theme park) and Pier Akarenga (near the historic Red Brick Warehouse shopping and dining complex). The service also links to Yokohama Station's east exit and other waterfront locations.

Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Yokohama Bay and the illuminated Yokohama Bay Bridge from the pier. The second floor houses Seafood Bistro Pier 21, a floating restaurant where diners can watch boats travel through the Port of Yokohama while eating. The pier itself is free to visit, and nearby Rinko Park offers additional scenic viewpoints of the waterfront and city skyline.

From this floating pier you can take Yokohama bay boat ride. In November, when sunset is about at 6 PM night ride is awesome. Industrial area is lighted and view is amazing.
