Even though the moss phlox wasn't 100% in bloom yet (I'd say 70-80%) it was absolutely stunning yesterday (May 8 2026). Large patches were pink, the walkways were beautifully done with bridges and stairs. The mountains in the background were fabulous. Also the staff was very kind and there was pink soft ice cream. The only downside is that you can see the parking lot and town from the hillside which isn't very picturesque. Otherwise it was a great trip and worth the 2 hour drive.
Visited in Mid May and it seems to be peak season for shibazakura! It's not crowded and it is a very beautiful and peaceful place, we came pretty late and sun is almost setting but it makes this place much more magical than it already is. There are many interlinked walking trails that can bring you to the top of the hill for a panorama view of all the distant mountains as well. It it very much worth the detour here!
Visited Shibazakura Park during the blooming season in May 2026 and it was absolutely breathtaking.
The endless pink moss flowers covering the hills create a stunning "pink mountain" view against the blue sky.
One of the most beautiful spring landscapes I've seen in Hokkaido.
Well worth the visit and highly recommended for nature lovers and photographers.
Went there on 01 May because we saw their instagram posts that the park was officially open. Parking is free, entrance is 500¥ for adults and 200¥ for kids. Cafes and restaurants close at 15:00. They will even have a light show in the evening on 22-24 May (pls check their website). I would say it’s 40-50% pink but it’s already worth the trip.
Amazing moss phlox garden on the hill sides. Vast pink moss as far as your eyes can see.
