With the increasing number of large cruise ships calling at Shimizu Port, the sight of passengers disembarking and heading out for sightseeing in Shizuoka by taxi, or shopping at the adjacent Dream Plaza, and the abundance of foreigners, is a breathtaking transformation from the usual Shimizu. I hope it will become a port city on par with Yokohama. I also hope that the new stadium in front of the station will be developed as a tourism-focused area rather than a medical area.
It's recommended to check the arrival times of cruise ships online before visiting. The sight of the large ships and the bustling crowds of foreign tourists creates an exotic atmosphere, almost like being abroad.
There are about four souvenir shops nearby where you can buy Japanese tea and other lovely traditional goods. There's also an area displaying Shizuoka-style plastic models, so be sure to look for it!
Using a rental bicycle is a convenient way to get around the area smoothly. This is a perfect place for ship enthusiasts and those looking for a unique and special experience.

With many international travelers gathered around the ships, the port has a wonderful, lively global atmosphere. It's a fantastic stop for sightseeing and finding unique Japanese souvenirs!
This time, I visited this port because of a Norwegian cruise ship docking there. It was a wonderful place. There were many volunteers to help guide us, and you could see Mount Fuji from where the ship was docked; the scenery was truly beautiful. It's definitely a port worth stopping at if you're traveling by cruise ship.
