Shimizu Port

4.3 (200)・Transit Station・Point Of Interest・Establishment

Shimizu Port is one of Japan's most picturesque and historically rich harbors. The port has been a vital hub for maritime trade since the Edo period, linking Japan to the world through its bustling shipping routes. Its strategic location along the Pacific Ocean made it an essential gateway for goods and culture, contributing significantly to the region's prosperity.

One of the standout features of Shimizu Port is its breathtaking view of Mount Fuji, which rises majestically in the background. This view has made Shimizu Port a favorite subject for ukiyo-e artists like Hiroshige, who immortalized the scene in his iconic woodblock prints. The port’s setting is not just visually stunning but also culturally significant, reflecting Japan's deep connection to its natural surroundings.

The port is home to one of Japan's most famous fish markets, where freshly caught seafood from Suruga Bay is sold daily. The market is renowned for its high-quality tuna, a delicacy that draws visitors from all over. Nearby, the S-Pulse Dream Plaza offers a mix of modern entertainment, with shopping, dining, and a Ferris wheel that provides sweeping views of the harbor and Mount Fuji.

good
It's a pretty good pier. You can walk to a nearby shopping mall in a few minutes, including Uniqlo/GU. There is a free shuttle bus to the city near the port. Every time I meet a Japanese aunt who speaks English and patiently explains the precautions, it is a beautiful scenery of this port. You can also see Mount Fuji when you walk to the back of the pier.

I arrived at the port on a cruise ship. We had a good view of Mt. Fuji, and we could also see the Ferris wheel from the boat.

If you go behind the Tokai University aquarium, not inside the bay of Shimizu Port, you will come to the entrance of the bay, where you can see Mt. Fuji, the sea, and the mountains as shown in the photo. It was a shame that a foreign ship arrived two days later.
