What other travelers are saying about Shishiiwa Observatory
Beautiful view on Hiroshima and its delta.
So many little islands, makes me thing of Da Long in Hà Nội Vietnam, in smaller of course.
The hike from the top rope station is ok. Steep per moment, but not dangerous. There are some signs warning about poisoned snakes and bees. We didn’t see any. If you stay on the track and avoid shortcuts in forest, you should be safe.
From the observatory, we walked down to the ferry. It took us 1h15 with 2 kids (51min said Google map). It’s an ok walk, with sometimes big steps. The walk is in the shade. And close to the coast, we see the beautiful red Torii Gate on water.
Come early or be ready to wait or hike yourself. I'd do the hike and skip the ropeway if the line is too long. Feels like you are on the highest point for hundreds of miles around. Great views and great history
FIRST! GET THERE EARLY IN THE MORNING!!!! Catch that 730am ferry! Beautiful weather, quiet & peaceful and be the first people to make your way up to the viewing points with minimal waits the entire experience. If you show up on the later ferries, you will be waiting as we were descending the mountain!
Last gondola station with view point, small restaurant, gift shop, and washroom.
View point is great with lots of photo stops. Recommend going in mornings early and only if weather is good. You are pretty high up so if weather is bad you won’t see the view.
There are lots of hiking trails from here to surrounding mountains and shrines if you have time.
I visited at the end of August. It was incredibly hot with little shade. Better wear a hat or bring a parasol for shielding yourself from the sun.
It was so hot that I decided not to do the hike to the shrine/temple. Thankfully I did not have to line up for the ropeway.
