Sky LOUNGE TOP of TREE (Tokyo Solamachi), Sumida

Tokyo Solamachi is a large-scale commercial complex located at the base of Tokyo Skytree in the Sumida ward of Tokyo. The facility opened on May 22, 2012, simultaneously with Tokyo Skytree, as part of an urban redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing the traditional shitamachi (downtown) area of eastern Tokyo. The development transformed a former railway depot and industrial zone into a modern entertainment and shopping destination that connects the area's historical heritage with contemporary urban culture.

The complex serves as both a gateway to Tokyo Skytree and a destination in its own right, spanning approximately 312 shops and restaurants across multiple floors. Tokyo Solamachi emphasizes Japanese culture and craftsmanship, featuring a curated selection of traditional goods, regional foods from across Japan, and exclusive products that cannot be found elsewhere. The facility includes dedicated zones such as the Japan Souvenir Shop with over 100 varieties of regional specialties, and several floors devoted to fashion, lifestyle goods, and character merchandise including a significant Pokémon presence.

Visitors can experience diverse dining options ranging from casual food courts to sit-down restaurants offering Japanese, Western, and international cuisines. The Skytree Terrace area provides outdoor seating with views of the tower. The complex also houses an aquarium, Sumida Aquarium, and a planetarium, Konica Minolta Planetarium Tenku, making it suitable for extended visits. The design incorporates traditional architectural elements and decorative motifs that reference the Edo period, creating connections to the area's cultural past.

Tokyo Solamachi is directly accessible via Tokyo Skytree Station on the Tobu Skytree Line and Oshiage Station, which serves the Tobu Skytree Line, Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line, Keisei Oshiage Line, and Toei Asakusa Line. The complex is approximately 20 minutes by train from Tokyo Station and 5 minutes from Asakusa. Admission to Tokyo Solamachi itself is free, though individual attractions within the complex such as the aquarium and planetarium require separate tickets.
