What other travelers are saying about Snow Corridor (Yuki-no-Otani)
When we visited in Mid-May 2025, the snow was not as high as few years ago but still in very impressive amount of 16 meters!
If possible, do arrive as early as possible because it will be very crewed by 11:00AM.
We stayed one night at 彌陀之原, so it was not as many people at the time when we arrived. There are two parts of snow wall you can explore, the narrower one is for the people to walk, the larger and higher one is for buses to use! The 16 meters one is the largest of the two!
It is a once in a lifetime experience. Do come if God permits!
Such a splendid sight! The max height of the snow walls changes from year to year depending on snowfall. They open on April 15th, I recommend going as early as possible before the snow melts too much. Recommend to buy the Alpen route tickets in advance on their website. They go on sale about a month before opening and sell out super quickly! Don’t worry if you didn’t get a web ticket, you can also buy on the day at the different see m stations along the way (Toyama, Tateyama, etc.) they keep a lot of tickets closed for online sale so it’s almost always possible to get a ticket on the day too. The queue to the ticket booths can be long in the mornings though.
There were a lot and i mean A LOT of people during the operational hours. Don’t be fooled by my pictures, I managed to go before the opening hours through a shuttle from the lodge I was staying at. If you want to experience the full Serene and blissful wonder of the snow walls, I recommend staying overnight too. Although if you don’t mind the people, it would make for a good one day trip.
Tourist must come. This place is very gorgeous and it has a lot of snows and it is easy to do skiing in this park and you take a bus from fu Shan to here it takes around 1 hour to get to this location
Very happy to be able to make it to this specular snow corridor. We visit from Nagano to Ogizawa. The wait was not long on a weekday. The drive up was equally stunning with views of the mountain sakura.
Japan's Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route Snow Corridor is typically open from mid-April to late June, with peak snow wall heights reaching 15-20 meters in late April and early May. The best time to visit the Snow Corridor is between late April and mid-May when weather conditions are most favorable and the dramatic snow walls are at their highest.
To reach the Snow Corridor, take the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route starting from either Tateyama Station (Toyama side) or Ogizawa Station (Nagano side). The journey involves multiple transportation modes including cable cars, buses, and ropeways. The Snow Corridor is located along the bus route between Bijodaira and Murodo stations at an elevation of 2,450 meters.
When visiting the Snow Corridor, wear warm waterproof clothing, insulated boots with good grip, gloves, and sunglasses due to snow glare. Temperatures can be below freezing even in spring, so layer clothing including thermal underwear. Bring sunscreen, a camera, and consider renting snow boots at stations if needed. Weather can change rapidly in the Japan Alps.
The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route ticket for accessing the Snow Corridor costs approximately 11,050 yen for adults (one-way through route) and 8,800 yen for a round trip to Murodo from Tateyama Station. Prices may vary seasonally and discounts are available for children, seniors, and groups. Additional costs include meals, souvenirs, and optional activities along the route.
You cannot drive directly to the Snow Corridor as private vehicles are not permitted on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route during snow season. Parking is available at the starting stations: Tateyama Station and Ogizawa Station, where you must use the designated transportation system. The route is designed as an eco-friendly transportation network to preserve the pristine Alpine environment.
