What other travelers are saying about Sumida Aquarium
It’s a fun attraction at the Tokyo Skytree for all ages, though a bit expensive for its size. Lots of jellyfish, garden eels, and reef aquariums; there’s one tank that’s just massive and full of coexisting fish, sharks, and manta rays. They’ve added several informational signs in multiple languages. Their koi fish exhibit walks through selective breeding for traits and how we’ve evolved certain breeds of koi.
The seal enclosure seems much too small and confining for the size and number of seals they have. They just kept swimming in the name neurotic circles. It was actually quite depressing to see, and for that alone, I wouldn’t recommend visiting.
The penguin enclosure is much more expansive and they have a ton of penguins. They also have them color-coded and there’s a big chart where they keep track of all the relationships and families within the colony, it’s pretty cute.
Sumida Aquarium is inside the Tokyo Skytree complex in Sumida City, Tokyo. It is on the 5th and 6th floors of Tokyo Solamachi, a popular shopping and entertainment area near Oshiage Station.
Most visitors spend about 1 to 1.5 hours at the aquarium, though those who enjoy watching marine animals closely may stay longer. Its compact size makes it easy to explore without feeling rushed.
Yes! Sumida Aquarium has a large indoor tank where visitors can watch a lively group of Humboldt penguins swimming, playing, and being fed by staff. It’s one of the biggest attractions in the aquarium.
Yes, the aquarium has a beautiful jellyfish exhibit with soft, artistic lighting that highlights the gentle movement of the jellyfish. It’s a peaceful and mesmerizing section that visitors often find relaxing.
Wonderful aquarium. I thought about not attending at first due to the size of the aquarium and cost. I thought, for the price, it may not be worth the amount you can see. I think I spent about half an hour here, but it was amazing! The seals were fed and could perform actions for treats. The fish and garden eels were very cute. The penguins were happy and swimming around. I definitely recommend coming here if you have the time.
It is my first time going in an Aquarium so I was hyped. We were already here at 9 am. The staff were very friendly. It was easy to use the ticket if you bought it on Klook. The staff will guide you on how to do it. The place is very pretty. It wasn't crowded because we were early. I really love the jellyfish 🪼. All of other animals like the seal and penguin, it was my first time seeing it in person. I love the vibes of the place. The place is not that large so you will be able to tour the place for about an hour or two hours. Overall, we enjoyed the place.
It’s one of the best aquariums I’ve been to and also the smallest. It’s really just about two floors, but everything inside is incredibly thoughtful. The design, the music, and especially the spotless glass (which must be cleaned daily, if not twice a day!) make the experience feel premium.
The penguins are super cute, and there are tons of them!
Overall, if you’re looking to see a wide variety of sea animals, this isn’t the place. But it’s perfect for a two-hour visit and makes for a really cute date spot.
A lovely visit to Sumida Aquarium.
The aquarium is modern, clean, and beautifully designed, with a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The penguin and jellyfish exhibits are especially charming and well presented. It’s not very large, but the displays are thoughtful and easy to enjoy at a slow pace. A great place to unwind and a perfect stop when visiting the Tokyo Skytree area.
