Takato Joshi Park (Takato Castle Ruins Park)

4.2 (200)ParkTourist AttractionHistorical PlacePoint Of InterestEstablishment

In Nagano Prefecture, Takato Castle Ruins Park is a dream destination for cherry blossom enthusiasts and history buffs. Renowned as one of Japan's top cherry blossom viewing spots, the park boasts over 1,500 Kohigan cherry trees, transforming the grounds into a mesmerizing sea of soft pink every spring.

These blossoms, distinct for their smaller flowers and deeper hues, create a one-of-a-kind spectacle that draws visitors from across the country and beyond. The park is built on the remnants of Takato Castle, a 16th-century fortress pivotal in Japan's feudal era.

While the castle is no longer standing, its legacy lives on through the park's tranquil beauty, which offers visitors a chance to step back in time while soaking in nature's brilliance. Spring is the year's highlight, with the annual Cherry Blossom Festival offering cultural performances, food stalls, and evening illuminations that cast an enchanting glow over the blossoms.

Planning a visit during peak bloom is highly recommended, though arriving early or visiting on weekdays will help you avoid the crowds. Ready to experience Takato Castle Ruins Park?

What other travelers are saying about Takato Joshi Park (Takato Castle Ruins Park)

We visited Takato Joshi Park on April 9, and the atmosphere felt like a scene from a fairytale. The cherry trees weren’t yet in full bloom, but the experience was still absolutely breathtaking. We arrived around 9:00 AM, and by then, the parking lots closest to the entrance were already full. There were quite a few people in the park, but thanks to the typical Japanese courtesy and patience, everyone managed to get their perfect photo moment. Parking fee: ¥1,000 Entrance fee: Adults: ¥600 Students: ¥300 Even without peak blossoms, the delicate pink haze and gentle light made it a day to remember. If you’re in Japan during sakura season — don’t miss it! A must-see spot for cherry blossom lovers. 🌸⛩️✨📸

I visited Takato Castle Ruins Park on 11th April, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The vibrant Takato-kohigan-zakura created a breathtaking canopy, making it a truly unforgettable hanami experience.

This place needs no further introduction. Given that I used to live in Matsumoto, I might be biased but this is easily top 3 best sakura viewing places across Japan, if not the No 1!

It's one of the best Cherry Blossoms places that I have visited . Although it is drizzling on the day of my visit , the full bloom Cherry blossom trees put a big smile on my face . Do take note that the entrance fee is 600 yen for adults and parking is 1000 yen . Highly recommended .
