What other travelers are saying about Tanzan Shrine
Place a pin on the map, maneuver your vehicle up the meandering road, not so deep in the mountain, stand a temple, a shrine, a hidden treasure full of stories. Even if we put all those studies aside, it’s still a scene, a view to behold. Quiet. Everything is really quiet. Tranquil, at ease, sublime, make your way through the hilly holy ground. Look up and back, there is another breathtaking beauty. Five star for sure. FYI, we were the only visitors during our venture.
I visited during snowfall, with few people around, making for a serene and beautiful experience. I truly enjoyed the moment. Took the shuttle bus from Sakurai Station—be sure to check the schedule in advance.
Undescribeble tranquillity and peacdful place to visit it is not just the Temple but rthe surroundings as well that make the spot so beautiful really worth going
Amazing Shrine built on the hill. It required considerable amount of walking from the carpark with steep steps.
The 13-storey pagoda was the only one in existence in Japan. With fall colours as the set off, the scenery was breathtaking.
It's worth all the effort made.
I liked our visit at Tanzan Jinjia. It is a very quiet place surrounded by nature and located on the side of a small hill.
The ascent to the top is very peaceful and from there you will have a nice view. To get to the top the train in the forest is also a picturesque one. When we were there not many people were visiting which made it a better experience.
Close to the entrance there is a parking spot if you are coming with a car but we used the one located next to the convenience store which was free and empty considering that there were not many people around.
Tanzan Shrine is historically significant as the site of the Tachibana no Moroe’s 12-article constitution discussion in 645, which marked the beginning of the Taika Reforms. These reforms dramatically transformed Japanese society and governance.
Visitors can explore the shrine’s stunning main hall, known for its unique 13-story pagoda, which is the only one of its kind in Japan. The shrine's grounds also feature beautiful sakura (cherry trees) that bloom spectacularly in spring.
Tanzan Shrine is renowned for its autumn festival, which features traditional dance, music performances, and colorful rituals. This festival typically takes place in November and is a major attraction for both locals and tourists.
Photography is allowed on the shrine grounds and is highly encouraged, especially during the cherry blossom season and autumn when the scenery is particularly breathtaking.
The best times to visit Tanzan Shrine are during the cherry blossom season in early April and the autumn leaf season in November. These periods highlight the natural beauty of the shrine's surroundings and are also times when cultural events are likely to take place.
