What other travelers are saying about Toba Aquarium
If you go to Mie, Toba Aquarium would definitely be worth your time here.
A nice boutique style aquarium that offers unique experience to visitors. The trainers and animals here will wow you in feeding time and show time, talented animals that can do many lovely and amazing moves.
Great for family trips and an interesting place for anyone to spend time here.
You may want to visit Sea Otter May and Kira during the weekday. They are super popular and attracted crowds of visitors.
Not a good idea visiting on weekends, as there were lots of people, mostly Japanese families. The favourite sea otters enclosure had queues of up to 30 minutes or more and there was a 1-minute time limit imposed for each person. There are, however, a wide variety of other exhibits, but i find some of the enclosures were too small for the animals.
Went for the fish, as I don’t exactly feel comfortable about the confinement of mammals. So, the 5 stars is for the fish. This had to be the best aquarium i’ve been to with beautiful and spacious displays. Many many varieties.
Good aquarium with lots of shows to see and cute animals. The otters are very famous, so if you want to see their show up close, make sure to queue early! Otherwise there's a screen above where they are so that everyone can see.
The walrus show is cute and you can pet the walrus afterwards, which is pretty unique.
Giving 4 stars only because some of the enclosures seemed a bit too small/lacking enrichment compared to other aquariums I've been to.
It’s worth the long train ride from Nagoya. Lots of neat exhibits, with special attention given to the dugong and sea otters. It’s also worth it see the seal/sea lion feeding. Best place to view it is from inside the tunnel on the second floor, as the feeder has the sea lion interact with the tunnel. The balcony on the third floor is pretty good. You can’t see anything from underwater on the first floor though. The one improvement that could be made is for the sea otter exhibit. We could only barely see the otters since there was a massive crowd of people waiting for the feeding time in front of the exhibit an hour before it happened. There was an attendant present but they were only making sure people weren’t waiting on the wheelchair ramp. There should be some sort of system so that people can queue for the otter feeding in an unobtrusive spot, so that other people are able to view the otters.
