While walking through the more refined, almost old-Tokyo charm of Kagurazaka, I came across this small shrine during a day of shrine-hopping—and decided to step in.
It’s a modest space, but it carries a quiet, distinctly sacred atmosphere. The presence of numerous lanterns and talismans adds a layered visual texture, giving the shrine a sense of depth despite its size.
It’s especially pleasant to visit in spring, when the surroundings feel lighter and more serene.
It's a simple yet worthwhile stop—more about atmosphere and quiet reflection than scale or spectacle.
A cool and tranquil shrine in the heart of the city.
It was a nice change of pace from exploring Tokyo the whole day. It was so cool being able to explore the shrine especially during the night which adds to the serene and tranquility while exploring the shrine. What was unpexted was a giant hall next to the shrine used for a variety of events such as weddings.
Overall, a nice little pitstop to rest and recharge!
Very busy and well known shrine known to many tourists and locals for having luck for relationship related blessings.
Signs and posters are everywhere even leaving the station to guide you to the shrine.
Plenty of Omamori for purchase, also, remember to wash and rinse ur hands before entering.
Quite a nice shrine. Just be aware that it is mainly for singles looking for God’s help to send them love and a partner in life. If you are coming with your family might not be exactly appropriate to stand on the same queue as the singles who are walking towards the altar and making their love wishes. We stepped away from the queue and took a few pictures. Beware of mosquitoes. We have all been bitten by them in the same moment. It can get pretty crowded especially in the evening and during weekends.
Tokyo Daijingu Shrine (東京大神宮) is a central Tokyo Shinto shrine founded in 1880 as a “remote worship” hall for the Grand Shrine of Ise, allowing city dwellers to venerate the same deities—especially Amaterasu‑ōmikami—without making the long pilgrimage to Mie Prefecture.
The shrine is especially famous as the birthplace of the modern Shinto wedding ceremony and is now one of the city’s most popular venues for marriage rituals and prayers for love and matchmaking.
