Yomiuri Land is a major amusement park located in Inagi, Tokyo, straddling the border between Tokyo and Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture. The park opened in 1964 and has been operated by the Yomiuri Group, the same media conglomerate behind Japan's largest newspaper. Spanning approximately 45 hectares, it sits on hillside terrain offering panoramic views of Tokyo and, on clear days, Mount Fuji in the distance.

The park features over 40 attractions ranging from family-friendly rides to thrilling roller coasters. Notable attractions include Bandit, one of Japan's longest roller coasters at 1,560 meters, which winds through the surrounding forest terrain. The park's signature experience is Jewellumination, one of the largest illumination events in the Tokyo area, transforming the grounds with millions of LED lights during winter months. This seasonal spectacle has become a popular draw for couples and photographers seeking evening entertainment.

Yomiuri Land incorporates several themed areas including Goodjob!!, an interactive zone where visitors can experience manufacturing processes while enjoying attractions related to car production, food making, and fashion design. The park also includes a traditional pool complex called WAI that operates during summer, featuring wave pools and water slides. For younger visitors, the park maintains gentler rides and mascot character meet-and-greet opportunities.

The park is accessible via the Keio Yomiuri Land Station on the Keio Line, followed by a 5 to 10-minute gondola ride called Sky Shuttle that provides aerial views during the approach. Alternatively, visitors can take buses from Yomiuri Land-mae Station on the Odakyu Line. Standard admission tickets cost approximately Β₯1,800 for adults, with separate ride passes available. A one-day pass including all attractions costs around Β₯5,800 for adults and Β₯4,600 for children. The park operates year-round with seasonal events and typically opens from morning through evening, with extended hours during illumination periods.

Frequently Asked Questions

The best time depends on your preferences. Winter months from October to February offer the spectacular Jewellumination light displays, making evening visits particularly memorable. Summer is ideal if you want to enjoy the WAI pool complex alongside the rides. Weekdays and non-holiday periods generally have shorter wait times compared to weekends and Japanese public holidays. Spring and autumn provide comfortable weather for exploring the outdoor attractions without extreme temperatures.

Most visitors spend between 5 to 8 hours at the park to experience the main attractions. A half-day visit of 4 to 5 hours is sufficient if you focus on specific rides or areas. If you plan to stay for the Jewellumination evening show during winter, expect to spend a full day from afternoon through evening. Families with young children exploring the Goodjob!! area and gentler rides may want to allocate additional time for a more relaxed pace.

Yes, Yomiuri Land caters well to young children with numerous age-appropriate attractions. The park has height-restriction-free rides and dedicated family areas where toddlers and preschoolers can safely enjoy themselves. The Goodjob!! interactive zone offers hands-on manufacturing experiences that engage children educationally. Character meet-and-greets and gentler rides provide entertainment for those too young or hesitant for roller coasters. However, the park does have several intense thrill rides, so families can find options for all age groups within one visit.

Tickets can be purchased both online and at the park entrance on the day of your visit. Online booking through the official website often provides small discounts and allows you to skip ticket counter lines, which can be long during peak periods. During special events like Jewellumination or holiday periods, advance booking is recommended as the park may reach capacity. If visiting on a typical weekday, purchasing tickets at the entrance is generally convenient without significant delays.

The park features multiple restaurants, food courts, and snack stands throughout the grounds offering Japanese and Western cuisine. Options include ramen shops, curry restaurants, pizza outlets, and seasonal food stalls. Most restaurants serve casual dining with prices typical for theme park settings, ranging from Β₯800 to Β₯1,500 per meal. Visitors are generally not permitted to bring outside food into the park except for baby food and items for dietary restrictions. Picnic areas are available outside the main gate where outside food can be consumed before entering.

Traveler reviews

Best time to go is winter to see the illumination. It's magical at night with the whole park and infrastructure lit with millions of lights. Booking ahead is recommended. Average waiting time for popular rides was 45 mins when we visited during year end holidays. 1.5km long Roller coaster is a must try. If you have enough guts :), you can ride it after dark. The whole path lights up but you ride mostly in the dark. Food is priced fairly compared to rip offs at certain other parks. Many restaurants and food cart options available. Try the roasted turkey legs from the store near the illumination light show area (Good Joba area). Great value for money. Take the ferris wheel after dark to enjoy Illumination from above. Day ticket is recommended rather than buying individual tickets.

What a large park and a lot of rides, things to do/ see, and food/ drinks to enjoy. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜‹ πŸ˜„ They still have their Christmas illumination on and it looked really beautiful at night. πŸŒ™ Even though I'm still giving it five stars, I don't believe it's properly posted at the ticket purchase area, pertaining to the all rides pass. This pass doesn't include the large ferris wheel. πŸ˜’ I may have missed it, and the person at the ticket counter didn't mention this either. Not a deal breaker, but it would have been nice to know. I had a fun time and really enjoyed my time here. πŸ˜„πŸ‘πŸ‘
Under rated amusement park, its much better than expected. We went there during Christmas day, huge area, we only covered probably 40% in one day. Its mainly 95% local Japanese visitors, friendly environment, plenty of foods and restaurants, you dont need to worry to get hurry. Highly recommend to come during winter Illumination period, after around 4pm all lights on, its just so beautiful, probably the best Illumination i have ever seen in Japan. Some famous ride like Bandit roller coaster may take up to 45 minutes waiting time, however you can purchase smooth pass (similarly to fast pass) skip all queue, cost of smooth pass range from 500 to 1000 yen (depends which ride) each person and for each use only. In year 2026 new Pokemon park will be opening here, highly recommend and will be back again for sure.
Visited on a Monday evening and it was not that crowded. Purchased tickets in advance online via Klook. Very convenient, the gondola to the amusement was located opposite to the train station. It was cool that the gondola was next to the roller coaster and we could hear people screaming. Illuminations were pretty and managed to catch the tip of Mount Fuji on the Ferris wheel. The fountain performance was impressive Ferris wheel and gondola ride was at an extra cost.
I visited the Pokepark in yomiuri land and it was incredible! If you are a huge PokΓ©mon fan from the 90s until now you’d feel a whole wave of nostalgia and happiness from seeing all the routes come to life. I was lucky to be able to visit this park on my first trip to Japan. Please go visit the Pokepark.
