Good spot to check out at least once, and works well for summer since the whole place is indoors and air conditioned.
If you're into thrill rides, the main ones are the Halfpipe, the roller coaster, and Transformers. The Halfpipe is the only one I'd really call fun if that's your thing. The roller coaster starts with a little game where you press buttons on your seatbelt, but the ride itself is super short. You basically reach the end right as the rush kicks in, so it's a bit of a letdown.
One tip: if you're planning to hit these rides, get the short pass. During peak hours the wait can be 90+ minutes, but with the pass it drops to like 5 minutes max. It runs around 1500 to 2500 yen depending on the day and time. You can scan a QR code to buy and pay for it, or just go to the info desk on the 1st floor and grab one there.
The rest of the attractions were fine, nothing special. There's also a bunch of claw machines if you're into those.
Super cool if you are expecting wait times. We were not expecting wait times to be like Disneyland times. Overall we had a great time though. Just don’t pre buy your tickets and enjoy the arcade games they have and pay per ride. Unless you get there early. We got there in the afternoon when wait times hit 75-80 mins.
Super fun! A lot of rides and attractions. Some were very scary! Wait time was 10-20 min per ride. It never seemed long as you review the instructions and get ready for your attraction while you wait.
We spent 4 hours there and did 10 attractions.
Lots of other attractions and games in the mall nearby.
Nice restaurants on the pier / beach.
Staff are nice but it wasnt worth the 3800 yen per person pass at all and i regret going. Probably great if youre going with children or teenagers under 16. As a 26 year old this was mostly boring and disappointing. Got a couple laughs maximum. Wait lines sucked and didnt bother with most of the place as a result , and this was on a WEEKDAY. Most things i deemed fun cost extra yen and theyre all very rigged on top of that. Theres like two high intensity coasters and the rest is little virtual entertainment stations. Staff ran it well but I personally feel like we wasted money and time being here. Wouldn't recommend to anyone over 20 unless youre easily entertained and like waiting in line 15-45min for the cooler stuff (again, on a weekday). The backyard is very pretty when lit up at night though and the mall next to it is pretty nice. The crepes with custard are delicious. Thats it though. Also, im not usually bothered by everything being in a different language but I had no idea what was going on for the attractions I did try which made it additionally pointless as a tourist. Would avoid.
Honestly, this park seems like a relic of the past, and I'm not sure I can think of it in a good way especially since most of the attractions are supposed to be "futuristic" and on big interactive machines or playspaces.
The actual Joypolis we witnessed was wore down and outdated. Most of the attractions are so old especially the interactive video game or simulator ones. The graphics and experience were probably never updated since 2010...
They were very little queues except for the surfboards yet it took forever to get to do anything because the staff has to explain every little thing like what not to do and how the machines/activities work EVERY time (and I respect the hell out of them for that because anyone would go crazy from doing that non-stop while staying in character).
It's very frustrating having to listen to 20 min of obvious explanation before any attraction and honestly was the biggest form of frustration.
The park in itself is fairly small and I don't know if it's worth it for the ~9,500¥ we paid for two, I would NOT come back for sure.
