Torinuma Park

Torinuma Park is a scenic lakeside park located in Furano, Hokkaido, centered around the tranquil Torinuma Pond. The park was developed as a recreational area to showcase the natural beauty of central Hokkaido and has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists seeking a peaceful retreat amid the region's agricultural landscape. The pond itself is a natural water body that has been enhanced with walking paths and viewing areas to allow visitors comfortable access to its serene environment.

The park's primary appeal lies in its natural setting and seasonal transformations. During spring and summer, the surrounding forests display vibrant greenery, while autumn brings spectacular foliage with brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows reflecting off the pond's surface. Winter transforms the landscape into a snow-covered wonderland, offering a completely different aesthetic experience. The park is home to various bird species, making it a favored spot for birdwatching enthusiasts, particularly during migration seasons.

Visitors to Torinuma Park can enjoy leisurely walks along the approximately 1.2-kilometer trail that circles the pond, which typically takes about 30 to 40 minutes to complete at a relaxed pace. The well-maintained path is relatively flat and accessible for most fitness levels. Photography is a popular activity, with multiple vantage points offering picturesque views of the water and surrounding landscape. The park features rest areas and benches where visitors can pause to appreciate the tranquil atmosphere. In winter, the area attracts cross-country skiing enthusiasts, though facilities are minimal.

Torinuma Park is located approximately 6 kilometers northeast of central Furano. The most convenient access is by car, with a free parking area available at the park entrance that accommodates around 20 vehicles. Public transportation options are limited; visitors relying on buses should check seasonal schedules as services may be infrequent. A taxi from Furano Station takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Admission to the park is free, making it an accessible option for budget-conscious travelers.

What other travelers are saying about Torinuma Park

Torinuma Park is a serene gem just minutes from the city center. The clear pond offers peaceful paddle boat rides, and I loved spotting rainbow trout beneath the transparent waters. The walking trails wind through untouched nature, perfect for forest bathing and spotting butterflies. The nearby burger shop adds a nice touch. Beautiful in autumn with fall colors.

Planned eating Furano Burger. But bonus is the surrounding Sunflowers.
Nice little pond with a small paddle boat, you can take the boat for 15 minutes around the pond for free, after that there is a small burger shop right across the street next to the river with an open seating area.
A relaxing park accessible from the city's center in 10 minutes of drive. The park is large enough to enjoy a short walk. Since it doesn't have many facilities, I felt like I was in the middle of untouched nature.
Relaxing place to go in the autumn. Was here too early I guess, and the leaves aren't all red/yellow yet.
