What other travelers are saying about Universal Studios Japan

We visited midweek arriving into the park around 8am and it took less than 30 minutes to get in. Would recommend purchasing the Express Pass with timed entries to better plan your trip and ensure you don’t miss out on any of the main rides. We found it was well worth the price. We were able to ride The Dream and Spy Family first with less than 30 min wait times which was great before grabbing an early lunch at Harry Potter. Most people tend to visit Nintendo World first which meant a lot of the queues at the beginning of the day were much shorter. The staff around the entire park are amazing! Every single member of staff we came across were always friendly, joyful and just generally lovely. They really did make the experience that much for enjoyable! The Jurassic ride was closed until the afternoon and when it reopened the queue was luckily about 40 minutes. The longest queue was for Jaws at approx 80 minutes and in our personal opinion, wasn’t that worth it especially as it was later in the evening when we got to ride and the weather turned. We enjoyed the Halloween decor and events that began in the evening and the zombies - so much fun! Overall the park is well organised, the food in the restaurants were good with plenty of choice and dietary requirements. Would love to visit again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is widely considered worth a visit, particularly for theme park enthusiasts and fans of the Universal Studios brand. The park offers a range of attractions, including thrilling rides, shows, and themed areas dedicated to popular franchises such as Harry Potter, Minions, and Jurassic Park. Its unique attractions and the immersive experience of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter make it a standout destination for many visitors.

While it's possible to experience a significant portion of Universal Studios Japan in one day, covering every single attraction and show might be challenging, especially during peak seasons when the park is crowded. Prioritizing the attractions you're most interested in and arriving early can help maximize your time. For a more relaxed experience and to ensure you don't miss out on anything, two days might be ideal if your schedule allows.

Universal Studios Japan is located in Osaka, not Tokyo. It's one of the four Universal Studios theme parks worldwide and the first one in Asia. It's an important distinction for travelers planning their itinerary, as Tokyo and Osaka are in different regions of Japan.

Choosing between Disney and Universal in Japan depends on your personal preferences and interests. Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea offer a classic Disney experience with characters, parades, and attractions suitable for all ages. Universal Studios Japan in Osaka provides a more diverse range of attractions, including thrill rides and immersive experiences, particularly appealing to movie and pop culture fans. If time allows, visiting both can offer a well-rounded experience of Japan's top theme parks.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is located within Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. This themed area offers an immersive experience into the Harry Potter universe, featuring attractions like Hogwarts Castle, the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride, and the village of Hogsmeade, where visitors can shop for wizarding gear and enjoy Butterbeer. It's a must-visit for fans of the Harry Potter series, offering a magical and interactive experience.

We visited Universal Studios Japan on a Monday and arrived around 9:30 AM. It took about 20 minutes to get in, including security and the actual entrance process, which was very smooth. We had an Express Pass with timed entries for several rides, which is why we arrived a bit later. If you don’t have one, it’s best to arrive before opening time since by 9:30 AM, the regular line for the Mario World attractions was already about three hours long. The park itself is incredibly well decorated. Every area is so detailed and perfectly themed, it feels immersive from start to finish. Food prices were surprisingly reasonable, especially compared to other Universal parks around the world. On some rides, like Koopa’s Challenge and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, the Express line merges with the regular line in a bit of a messy way, so everyone ends up mixed together. That said, you still get to skip a good portion of the line, which makes a big difference. For the rides we didn’t have an Express Pass for, we waited about 1.5 hours for the Hollywood Dream ride and around 1 hour for Flight of the Hippogriff. Overall, the experience was absolutely worth it and the park was well organized and enjoyable throughout.

One of the best themeparks in the world, probably better than disneyland too. Would recommend prebooking your tickets a month prior for a weekday. Also, would highly recommend getting the express pass 7 to cover all the high-thrill rides. The park itself is very convinient to travel through and from anywhere in Osaka, thanks to public transport (JR and Subway). Tip - if youre not buying the express pass, head to the park enterance 1 hour before the official opening time so you can access the supernintendo world/donkey kong land for free (else you need a timed ticket which is hard to get)

I’d give my day at Universal Studios Japan a solid 7/10. The park itself is incredibly impressive — the attention to detail, the music, and the overall atmosphere really pull you into each themed area. Walking through the different worlds felt magical, and Harry Potter World at night was easily the highlight. The lights, the ambience, and the soundtrack made it feel like stepping straight into the movies. Mario World during the day was also awesome to see — the colors, animations, and all the little details were incredible. It genuinely felt like stepping straight into the game. That said, the food was definitely a letdown. I tried the chicken leg, turkey leg, and a hot dog, and all of them were just okay — nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. For a park that nails the visual experience so well, I was hoping the food would match that level. Crowds were manageable, lines moved fairly well, and the staff were incredibly friendly as always in Japan. Overall, it was a fun experience with some unforgettable moments, especially in the Wizarding World and Mario World, but the food missed the mark. Still worth a visit — just maybe eat a good meal before you go! 🎢✨

WOW! What an absolutely fantastic place! Nintendo World at USJ truly brings the magic of the games to life. The experience was exciting from start to finish, and it’s definitely a must-visit for families, kids, and anyone who grew up with Mario. That said—please, please plan everything in advance. We went on a weekend and it was super jam-packed. There were crowds everywhere, and without proper preparation you might spend a lot of your visit just waiting in queues. Luckily, we decided to purchase the VIP Pass, and honestly, it was a blessing in disguise. Yes, it’s a bit expensive, but think of it as an investment. You’re investing in saving time, cutting down queueing, and being able to enjoy more of the attractions without stressing about the crowd. With the number of people that day, we would’ve spent hours in line if not for the VIP Pass. Overall, we had a great time. The atmosphere, the details, the attractions—everything was top-notch. I highly recommend visiting, but make sure to buy your tickets early and plan ahead. Bring your family, bring your kids, and get ready for an unforgettable experience!
