What other travelers are saying about Wakasawada Beach
One of the best beach locations to go from Kyoto for families as the sea is calm here because it’s a cove surrounded by land and it’s a sandy beach.
Many shops at the beach offering coin showers , rentals and food but they will be closed during off season. A lot of paid parking and also some ryokans for overnight stay. There is also a camp ground.
The beach operates from early July through late August with full facilities, lifeguards, and equipment rentals. Swimming is only recommended during this official season when water temperatures are suitable and safety services are available.
The beach provides changing rooms, showers, restrooms, and paid parking during summer. Equipment rentals include umbrellas, chairs, and floats. Limited food vendors operate during peak season.
Nearby sites include Myotsuji Temple, Mantokuji Temple, Obama Fisherman's Wharf for seafood and shopping, and the Saba Kaido Kumagawa-juku historic post town (30 kilometers away). The area is known for Obama-nuri lacquerware with workshops and museums available for visits.
Wakasawada Beach experiences moderate crowds on weekends and holidays in July and August, particularly during Obon (mid-August). Weekdays are noticeably quieter. The 800-meter length provides adequate space even during busy periods.
Yes. Obama City offers traditional ryokan (Japanese inns), hotels, and minshuku (guesthouses) within 5-10 kilometers of the beach. Some beachfront accommodations are available during summer. Advance booking is recommended for July and August.
Came here on sunny October 13 2024. Even though its Autumn. The sun is strong and the water is still relatively warm. (Compared to the October sea in Crete or Santorini) The swim is pleasant with fine sandy sea bed and gentle waves.
I am very surprised to see a few other japanese swimmers in the water in this season. Overall a good experience but they should really clean up the trash on beach
I haven't gone swimming at the beach in ages. Most beaches I've been to in Japan have cold water year-round. However, Wakasa Wada beach offers warm water, making it a great spot for swimming! Plus, the water is shallow and clear!
Beautiful beach with white sand and lots of establishment along the beach. Camping is allowed here. Toilet and coin shower is available. Parking fee of 1,200 is imposed.
Wakasa Wada Beach is a beautiful retreat famous for the blue flag qualification. It’s the only beach in whole Asia with that qualification. Food is great people are nice and weather is awesome 😎
