Yamada Honey Bee Farm is a hands-on tourist facility located in Kagamino Town, Tomata District, Okayama Prefecture. Established by Yamada Bee Farm, a company that has been beekeeping since 1948, this destination farm represents the only tourist facility directly operated by the company, which is known throughout Japan for producing bee-derived health foods and cosmetics. The farm is situated on land deeply connected to the company's founder, who was captivated by Kagamino Town when it was a major production area for Chinese milk vetch and decided to settle there while continuing migratory beekeeping.

The farm's significance lies in its educational mission to teach visitors about the interconnectedness of life, the importance of nature, and the vital role honeybees play in the ecosystem. Honeybees not only produce honey but also play a crucial role in pollinating vegetables and fruits. The facility showcases this relationship through various experiences and installations, allowing visitors to observe strawberries grown with the help of pollinating honeybees and to understand how these insects contribute to food production. Set against the backdrop of lush forests and pure water sources, the farm provides an immersive natural environment where guests can connect with the land and learn about sustainable agriculture.

The most popular visitor experiences include the Honey Harvesting Experience, where participants learn about beekeeping history, look inside active hives, operate centrifuges, and extract honey with their own hands. This year-round program requires advance reservation and includes tasting fresh raw honey on-site, plus a 50g jar of honey to take home. The Strawberry Picking Experience runs annually from January 5 to late May in a greenhouse the size of about 12 tennis courts, offering a 45-minute all-you-can-eat format. The strawberries are pollinated by honeybees and grown without chemical pesticides, allowing visitors to compare varieties such as Kaorino, Beni Hoppe, and Oishi Berry.

The farm includes two dining venues: Restaurant un'ape, supervised by a renowned Okayama Italian chef, serves pasta and pizza alongside a salad bar featuring seasonal local vegetables; Hachi Cafe offers farm-special drinks made with seasonal fruits and popular items like Honey Strawberry Ice and Honey Banana Cake. An on-site shop sells over 200 types of Yamada Bee Farm products, including honey varieties such as acacia, lotus, and multifloral honey, with a particularly extensive selection of domestically produced options. Top souvenirs include Honey Cookies available exclusively at the farm, Additive-Free Honey Strawberry Jam, Honey Rusk Set, and Honey Dorayaki.

Reaching the farm by public transport requires taking the JR Tsuyama Line from JR Okayama Station to Tsuyama Station, then transferring to the JR Kishin Line to Innosho Station, followed by a bus to Tsukadani-guchi stop and a 10-minute walk, totaling approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes. Due to limited public transportation schedules, renting a car is strongly recommended for convenience. The farm provides free parking for 50 cars, and the drive from Okayama City via the Chugoku Expressway takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Ice cream is good, but high price a little. Honey has many kinds, but much expensive comparing to US, Canada, especially domestic one. If you have a small child, so good for your family because you can have strawberry picking.

I visited with my dog. It seemed smaller than it looked in photos. Is it okay to bring your dog from the entrance, from the parking lot to the entrance? I wasn't sure, so I asked a staff member, who was very kind and courteous, showing me the path from the outside to the back, the walking course, and unlocking the rest room for me. When I purchased honey🍯, I was given a membership card, and when I joined, I received honey as a souvenir😊 The buckwheat honey I purchased had a flavor similar to brown sugar syrup. The Satoyama Kuroganemochi honey I received as a souvenir had a refreshing sweetness. I was glad to be able to taste the difference between the two honeys. The soft serve ice cream was delicious, topped with a different honey of the day😋, which made me want to try different honeys✨ Also, thank you for the dog supplements😊

I went strawberry picking. These are the same strawberries they sell. Next to me, the staff was harvesting strawberries to pack, and I was able to eat the same strawberries they were selling for 1,200 yen per pack! Great value for money! They have three types of strawberries: Oi C Berry, Beni Hoppe, and Kaorino. While everyone has their own preferences, I found Kaorino to be the best. They sell whipped cream for 200 yen to change up the flavor. With whipped cream, you can eat as much as you want, so I recommend buying some. There's also a cafe corner, and I recommend the honey soft serve ice cream and strawberry parfait. They also sell souvenirs, so it was a very satisfying holiday.

The strawberry picking experience was very satisfying. The shop owner carefully selected the characteristics of different strawberries, and I especially loved the unique aroma of the wild strawberries. Outside, there were many shops selling honey products and desserts.

I visited the limited-time sweet potato buffet. It was delicious. The gorgonzola and honey pizza was especially great. I was surprised at how generous they were, as they even included a whole bottle of beer. The honey soft serve was light but still had a strong milky flavor and was very delicious. The staff were very kind and had lovely smiles. They said they might hold a strawberry buffet next time depending on the harvest, so I would definitely like to participate. Thank you very much.
