How to Get to Haneda or Narita Airport (Tokyo Departure)

Last updated 1/30/2026
Narita Airport

Tokyo has two major airports: Haneda Airport (HND) and Narita Airport (NRT). Choosing the best way to get to either airport depends on your location, budget, and preferred mode of transport.

Here is a comprehensive guide to help you navigate your way efficiently.

Take a Train to Haneda Airport

Haneda Airport is closer to central Tokyo, making trains the fastest and cheapest option.

Option 1: Tokyo Monorail (Best from Tokyo Station & Shinagawa)

Take the JR Yamanote Line or Keihin-Tohoku Line to Hamamatsucho Station.

Transfer to the Tokyo Monorail, which goes directly to Haneda Airport Terminals 1, 2, or 3 (15 minutes).

  • Travel Time: 30 minutes from Tokyo Station

  • Cost: Around 500 yen

  • Covered by JR Pass? Yes

Option 2: Keikyu Line (Best from Asakusa, Shibuya & Yokohama)

Take the Keikyu Line from Shinagawa Station to Haneda Airport Terminals 1, 2, or 3 (15 minutes).

  • Travel Time: 30 minutes from Shibuya or Shinjuku

  • Cost: Around 300–400 yen.

  • Covered by JR Pass? No.

Tip: If you have large luggage, a bus or private transfer may be easier than taking the train.

Take a Train to Narita Airport

Narita Airport is farther from Tokyo, but several fast and direct train options are available.

Option 1: Narita Express (Fastest from Tokyo, Shinjuku, and Shibuya)

Take the Narita Express (N’EX) from Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, or Shibuya directly to Narita Airport Terminal 1 or 2.

  • Travel Time: 55 minutes from Tokyo Station

  • Cost: Around 3,000 yen

  • Covered by JR Pass? Yes

Option 2: Keisei Skyliner (Fastest from Ueno & Nippori)

Take the Keisei Skyliner from Ueno or Nippori Station to Narita Airport.

  • Travel Time: 40 minutes

  • Cost: Around 2,570 yen

  • Covered by JR Pass? No

Option 3: Keisei Main Line (Cheapest Option)

Take the Keisei Limited Express from Ueno or Nippori to Narita Airport.

  • Travel Time: About 70–90 minutes

  • Cost: Around 1,100 yen
