Rose Town Tea Garden

4.6 (241)Tea HousePoint Of InterestEstablishment

Rose Town Tea Garden was established in 2012 by Steve A. Town, originally from the United States but raised in Japan, and his wife Rose, who is from Canada with Scottish roots. The establishment occupies a former wedding chapel that has been converted into a Victorian-style tea house, featuring marble flooring, white columns, two pianos, and an elegant white-toned design. Located in Ome, a suburban area in western Tokyo, the tea garden sits along the Okutama River at 1-3-1 Futamatao.

The venue offers dramatic views of the Tama River and the Jindai Bridge from its enclosed veranda, providing a natural retreat far removed from Tokyo's urban centers. The tea garden serves English-style afternoon tea featuring scones made from a recipe provided by a Scottish hotel that inspired the owners, along with sandwiches and sweets prepared using locally sourced vegetables and fruits from Ome. All dishes are handcrafted each morning by Rose using fresh local vegetables and domestically produced wheat flour.

Guests can choose from approximately 25 varieties of tea, including classic options like Darjeeling, Assam, and Earl Grey, as well as original blends such as Canadian Heritage and Buckingham Palace, a special blend selected for Queen Elizabeth's garden parties. Three afternoon tea sets are available: the Princess Heather Set (soup, salad, afternoon tea, and tea pot) for 4,000 yen, the Lady Grace Set (soup or salad, afternoon tea, and tea pot) for 3,500 yen, and the Rose Garden Set (afternoon tea and tea pot) for 3,000 yen. The venue provides both indoor and outdoor seating options, and customers can purchase tea to take home.

Rose Town Tea Garden is located just a 5-minute walk from Hinatawada Station on the JR Ome Line, which is the second stop from Ome Station heading toward Okutama. By car, the tea garden is approximately a 15-minute drive from Ome Railway Park via Route 28. Parking is available for approximately 6 to 10 cars, though spaces may be limited during busy periods. The tea house is located on Route 411 and is easily identifiable by its white, double-story building with various national flags at the white cast iron fence. The owners can communicate in English, making the venue accessible to international visitors.

What other travelers are saying about Rose Town Tea Garden

A beautiful location and always excellent service. This was my 4th visit. The menu changes seasonally, though the savory sandwiches stay somewhat consistent. Reserve your spot in advance, very rare will you get a walk in spot, I call to make mine. The seating is aesthetically pleasing but larger sizes be warned, the seats aren’t incredibly wide. Not an issue for me but worth noting.

I came by as a group of 6 to enjoy a nice English tea experience and this place did not disappoint! We all opted for the Princess set and enjoyed the soup of the day, a salad with homemade balsamic dressing, and a delicious tower of sandwiches and sweats. We will be back and next time I'm buying some tea to take home as well.

This is my favorite cafe in Japan. There are a dozen or more with adorable theming but this tea cafe has stunning surrounding views and the couple that own and operate this tea house are the sweetest, with the best background story. We’ve been here 3X at 3 different times of the years to taste a new variety of teas and tea snacks. Will always recommend this tea house to anyone who asks.

Absolutely loved this tea setting taking place in a retired wedding venue. It’s beautiful and vintage I was blown away. There’s about 8/9 parking spots. Indoor and outdoor seating. The Terrance is gorgeous and has about 5 tables ? Me and my friends got Set B and the tomato soup was phenomenal along with everything else!! The owner was understanding when they accidentally sat someone in our outdoor Terrance spot and had them move inside since we reserved Terrance. Would come again ! ⚠️CASH ONLY!!⚠️ for 3 set B’s. (We paid ¥7,500)
