Outstanding insight into this uniquely Japanese sport
A quite brilliant experience. This is the real-deal being the genuine morning routine in this sumo stable. The commentary by ear-piece was exceptionally informative about the techniques involved and the lifestyle - and didn't shy away from the health risks. It was interesting that size wasn't the be-all and end-all as the smallest wrestler was able to win most of his practice bouts. The wrestlers come outside afterwards for a great photo opportunity. We thought this brilliant attraction was defintiely value for money. Relatively easy to find by Tokyo's brilliant and easy to navigate metro.
Authentic Experience
My wife and I really enjoyed our time on this tour. This is so much more authentic than the other breakfast + sumo simulation tours, here you actually get to see and hear real sumo wrestlers as they train. Seeing them warm up, train, practice, and be coached gave us a true appreciation of the national sport of Japan. Sumo wrestlers as young as 15 and as old as their late 30s were a part of the stable we saw, giving us insight into the life/journey of a Sumo wrestler’s career. The Sumo Master (owner/coach) of the stable also did a Q&A session at the end, where we learned more about how he runs the stable, scouts new wrestlers, and trains for a tournament. Highly recommend!
