How is kado different from Western flower arranging?

Kado follows a philosophy of simplicity. Instead of filling a vase, you remove unnecessary elements and treat empty space as part of the design, so the natural shape of each flower stands out.

Do I get to keep my arrangement?

Yes. You leave with the arrangement you create during the class, along with a better understanding of the ideas behind it.

Do I need to bring flowers or tools?

No. All materials and flowers are provided, along with a complete set of flower-arranging tools.

Will other guests join my class?

No. This is a private class, so your instructor works only with your group and can give each person individual attention.

A wonderful food experience in Kyoto

We had a really fun food and cooking experience with Meiko and Yumi yesterday. Yumi took us on a fascinating tour of the food market, and even gave us a helpful Japanese lesson! Mieko gave us a wonderful cooking lesson, and the meal we made together was lovely. Thanks so much to them both for such a subarashi experience!
