长谷寺是镰仓著名的佛教寺院，以其高大的木制观音像而闻名。观音是慈悲的女神，这尊木像高约9米，并覆盖着金箔。 

传说它与奈良的另一尊观音像出自同一棵树。寺院建于8世纪，作为重要的礼佛场所已持续了一千多年。

寺院位于山坡上，游客可以看到美丽的海景和镰仓市景。寺内有宁静的花园，尤其在六月绣球花盛开时格外缤纷。寺中还可以看到许多小石制地藏像，地藏是儿童和旅人守护神。
